a finer dance documentary
dromasca23 January 2009
This documentary is a must for dance lovers, presenting in a little more than 100 minutes the life, artistic development, career, ideas and the huge contribution to the art of dance of one of the greatest choreographers ever. Well documented, it traces the life of Bejart from childhood, the influence of his parents, how he got involved and fell in love with dance, it traces his career as a dancer from debut to maturity, as well as his creations than revolutionized the modern ballet. All along the film we are treated with great scenes of dance, with very well filmed scenes of his work as a ballet teacher and director (watch the dance lesson given in Japan) and with interviews and confession who open new doors towards understanding his work and beliefs on art. The interview with Eugene Ionesco was for me the pick of the documentary, throwing light on the collaboration of two great artists, two of the best in their respective genres.
