'Inside' is a very subtle yet effective piece of work. The director uses squares as the main visual theme and the square is a prominent form throughout the film both in the main characters bizarre hallucinations and through the making of the film. In one scene the character eats a square desert from a square plate, the kind of subliminal shot that doesn't stand out awkwardly but has been thought about and placed there for a reason. I caught this at the New York Independent International Film & Video Festival in May 2005. It's a decent short from a promising young director from N.Ireland whom I had the pleasure of meeting. I love his artistic graphic design sense of film-making and I look forward to seeing further works from Brian Philip Davis.
