Just got back from the Maui Film Festival where this film was shown. I'd have to say that I was pleasantly surprised on how good this movie actually was.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Pual Rudd have great chemistry throughout the whole movie. Jon Lovitz appears in the film also and adds a great comedic experience to the film. He stars as Michelle's ex-husband in the movie and I laughed every time the both of them were on screen together.

Pual Rudd was fantastic in this movie and it shows what he can do when given co-top billing in a comedy. He was great in 40-year old virgin and in this he is no different.

The movie has the same type of feel of Clueless, as it should, their both directed by the same person. Give this movie a chance, it was funny and kept you entertained throughout the whole movie.

I didn't give too much detail as you can tell, i just wanted to let you know a little bit of what to expect and how well the actors/actress's come together in this movie.

Great date movie/or a movie to take your significant other. I promise you'll both have lots of laughs.

I Could Never Be Your Woman is the first film directed by Amy Heckerling (Clueless) in like 7 years. I ended up unexpectedly loving Clueless back then, and this film definitely has that same vibe, as well as many of the same cast members, including Rudd, Stacey Dash, and Wallace Shawn. The movie was a light, fun romantic comedy that I enjoyed quite a bit (though I could have done without Tracy Ullman's "Mother Nature"). Michelle Pfeiffer makes a nice return from her movie hiatus in the lead here, after easing back in with her smaller supporting role in Hairspray earlier this summer. Her daughter is played by Saoirse Ronan, a talented young woman who is gonna be breaking out in a big way in the next year with this and roles in several other really big-name films. But the real star here is definitely Paul Rudd, who has proved to be one of the funniest guys around right now. Between this, his involvement with the Apatow crowd, his participation in all manner of projects by alumni of The State, and the rest of his work, he definitely knows how to find good projects and surround himself with equally talented people.

Yes, Michelle Pfeiffer is who i am referring to. She looks absolutely amazing at 49 and when i was a kid i could only wish all my mates mums looked this fine.

I am a massive fan of romantic comedy, i hear you all say but you are a bloke whats wrong with you !!! Who can forget Love Actually which basically has some of the all time funniest moments in cinema. I could never be your woman unfortunately does not hit these highs but you will laugh and the characters have a certain warmth.

The film really focuses on the relationship between Pfeiffer and her daughter which is unusual in the fact the most of the good comedy moments arise from the daughters relationship with her mother and her mothers personal life. You have to love Jon Lovitz, the guy is a genius. He is barely in the movie but his dead pan matter of fact character is a perfect foil to Pfieffers Character.

On the whole i would say watch this, probably wait for DVD but its certainly worth a rental. The film had the potential to be both funnier and also some pointless Scenes especially with Mother Nature.

On a final note i know this is only a film and it was 90 minutes long but if i have children in the future i would like to be a parent like Pfieffers Character. Honest, open with a great relationship with her daughter.

Considering the talent involved - writer/director Amy Heckerling and actors Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd - I Could Never Be Your Woman could contend for the most high-profile motion picture yet to take the direct-to-DVD route. This wasn't intended to be the path traveled by this motion picture; had all gone well, it would have been on multiplex screens a year or two ago. Financial mismanagement and bad decisions made the movie unreleasable and it languished until The Weinstein Company executed their home video rights. The result is a mixed blessing for Heckerling - her movie gets to see the light of day but it does so with the unenviable "direct-to-DVD" label. It's good enough to warrant better than the curt dismissal it is likely to receive in some corners.

Amy Heckerling's latest romantic comedy, I Could Never Be Your Woman, got, to use a proverbial word, shafted. It was meant for theatrical release and went straight to DVD due to some bad deals done with one of the producers. It's a shame despite the fact that Heckerling's comedy was far from being top-shelf work. It certainly stands a good chance at ranking well enough alongside (and probably better than) many of the tripe conventional market-stuffers that are out in cineplexes. Her film posits that a middle-aged TV writer (Michelle Pfieffer) has some angst and insecurities in dating one of the new stars of her TV show (Paud Rudd), and it's not a bad premise. This is also thrown in a quasi plot thread involving her daughter (Atonement's Saoirse Ronan, couldn't tell it was the same girl she's that good) as she tries to navigate her first possible boyfriend.

A lot of this isn't delivered with all of the best execution- certainly it's hard to figure on what exactly makes the Tracy Ullman bits funny as they're slipped in with some awkward soft-focus and at ill-timing- and there's something kind of fishy about putting such an actress like Michelle Pfieffer, who is still incredibly beautiful for any age, in the role of an insecure woman who can't see herself with such a younger man after such a long break from being with a man. At the same time, there is a good deal that does work to Heckerling's advantage, such as the bond between the mother and daughter in the story that doesn't ring as being sappy or trite like in other rom-coms or flicks with mother-daughter talks and such. And almost in spite of the bright lighting, Paul Rudd lays on the same charm and wit carried over from the Judd Apatow comedies (if, of course, nowhere near as funny in the sensibility of crudeness). And who can't love Jon Lovitz or Fred Willard?

So with I Could Never Be Your Woman, it's good for a rental, but that's not really the point with the release issue. It's the kind of movie, as with Heckerling's others, that play for laughs with a big audience, and are perfect for a certain niche of female viewers and die-hard rom-com afficionados. It's light and slight and not too terrible, if not much memorable either.

Probably the best reason to see this film is to see a young Saoirse Ronan doing devastating parodies of some pop songs. She's also great fun also. Pfeiffer is always at least agreeable, Paul Rudd here is totally Paul Rudd, Tracey Ullman as Mother Nature is a nice touch. But really there isn't much meat here, comic or not. The little intrigue there is is weak and the central romance proceeds pretty much because, well, it has to, not because it is especially motivated. I'm really not sure when it actually begins. There is some fun parody of the TV business along the way. If you're not watching it too hard, you might not mind you're watching it at all.

Rosie (Michelle Pfeiffer) is divorced mother of Izzie (Saoirse Ronan) and a producer of a silly high school TV show. She falls for new actor Adam (Paul Rudd), but the age difference is driving her crazy. I like Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd as a lovely couple. That is certainly a huge chunk of the movie, and is a lot of fun. But there are two things that are constantly annoying me in this movie.

First, writer/director Amy Heckerling wants this to be The Graduate with a different ending. Only Michelle Pfeiffer looks way too hot for the Anne Bancroft role. And Paul Rudd look older than 29. It makes the age difference look insignificant, and takes away much of the drama. Second, I couldn't stand Mother Nature (Tracey Ullman). She causes every scene to get off the narrative. It's very distracting. She's part of a whole series of overwritten jokey setups.

In the end, I like the leads. Saoirse is cute as the kid. That's enough to recommend this movie marginally.

That is what i would have titled this movie. I could not bring myself to rent something that references "be your woman" It seemed so Tarzan/Jane like. But it came on cable and I settled down with not too high expectations.

I was pleasantly surprised. First, the plot had much more to it than a May/December romance. The relationship between the mother, Pfieffer and her daughter, Roan, was equally important, and delightful. Enjoyed how much of the Mother's career was involved. And the anti-hero goofy charm of Rudd was fun. Lots of good lines and funny scenes.

However, there was a lot of odd stuff that did not fit together. Though I enjoyed Lovitz role as the ex-husband/father, I could not imagine him married to MP. I love quirky Tracey Ullman, but her role as Mother Nature was awkward and just confused the theme of the movie. Was the motto that you can fight Mother Nature- while at the same time the movie mocked all our attempts to do so? In the end it seemed to glorify youth after all. The script gave little attention to the falling in love part of the romance between Pfeiffer and Rudd- what made him hit on her right out of the box? They always seemed a little awkward together to me.

The best part was the role of the daughter. Ronan hit it right on the mark and was delightful. It is worth it just to hear her version of "Ironic" near the end of the movie.

Director/writer Heckerling used to be one of the most bankable names in Hollywood. Now, not so much.

Audience reaction to this film -- plus the fact it was packaged by a Spanish production company -- pretty much tells us that her batting average is not quite what it was.

On paper it must have looked clever. A Rom-Com with a built-in 10 year age difference (older woman, younger man) starring one of the most personable male leads ever (Rudd) and one of the most beautiful women since the Sumerians started keeping records (Pfeiffer), along with a wonderfully precocious teen star (Saoirse Ronan) as insurance.

Mix in a (incredbly horrific) trope involving "Mother Nature" appearing in the story at random, and add one of Heckerling's favorite (but most over-rated) actors (Stacy Dash) and -- in theory -- you should have a hit.

In fact, all you have when the dust settles is Rudd's charm and Pfeiffer's beauty and a very forgettable script.

My wife and I happen to be one of those Ashton/Demi couples and have been together before it became popular and acceptable. I never had much of a problem with it but my wife did initially. The film did a remarkably accurate job of portraying what goes on in the head of the older female. It had us ROTFL as we had gone through similar situations ourselves when we were dating.

Paul Rudd is very funny much funnier than I remember him from Friends and Michelle Pfeiffer is perfect as the sexy, and somewhat insecure love interest. The daughter/mother relationship was also really well done - the daughter being smart, just precocious and innocent enough without being too artificially sweet which was very hard to pull off. The dialog in the film is clever and witty but light and self-parodying along the lines of Clueless.

Overall, a very sweet and funny movie - I haven't enjoyed a romantic comedy this much since Annie Hall or Sleepless in Seattle.

I love romantic comedy movies. When we say romantic comedies we could imagine 'Pretty Girl', 'There's something about Mary', Something's gotta give', and recently i've seen 'Beause I said so' and so on. Those of movies are my favorite. Most romantic comedy films have in common in main poster. Smile Face of leading Characters and bright and vivid color, no gloomy and dark face of people. So i just could guess if it's romantic comedy. I've never heard this movie before i went to go to DVD shop. When i notice this DVD, I thought this is just what i want to see.

The scenario is so simple and funny. somebody could say it's so cliché and banal. But as a 30something woman this kind of story makes me so serious. 40something comedy TVshow producer Michelle Pfeiffer falls in love with a young comedian who is 20s. Even if she really loves him she can't express honestly to him for their age gap. She said that because i'm older than you all of things are my responsibility. We used to say that American society is so opened and sometimes too much uncontrolled and disordered, Through this movie we could know there are still self-control conception eventually they became lover though.

Even though the story is so simple and look goofy, but the actors playing is great. We even could enjoy Michell Pfeiffer's great body line even if she's 50 around. Let's be cool like this movie.

The most impressive scene is the relationship between Michell Pfeiffer and her daughter. Michell is divorced but the daughter is still so cool to Mom. Michell doesn't try to control her daughter as well and hope her daughter's romantic love. The daughter even asks to mom 'how to have sex?' Michell's answer is 'Maybe after getting Master degree? or after 18 college student? ' such an open-minded mom. i love it. i would like to be like this family. could i be? i'm too much conservative and traditional...i'm not confident...

This movie is very disturbing on many levels. Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer look like lovable people and decent actors. However, at the time of filming she was 49, he was 38, and I just do not understand why they have to play respectively 40 and 29. I am sure there must be plenty of actors of the right age, who can be even more convincing at being 40 and 29. It seems totally unnecessary to start with such a stupid lie.

The plot revolves around the Paul and Michelle characters (Adam and Rosie) falling for each other, and her insecurities about being too old for the guy. Given that they live and work in Hollywood, a city where human relationships are based on appearance and people take extraordinary good care of themselves, it seems strange that somebody like Michelle Pfeiffer could be so insecure about her looks. Unless her character has the self-esteem of a doormat, she must be pretty sure she looks great for her age and all the grieving about "being old" sound phony and hypocrite.

But this is just a minor detail in a vulgar and one-dimensional plot. Not only the lives of all the characters are based on appearance and shallow relationships, they all seem convinced that youth is the only value and consequently do their best to regress as far as possible into their adolescence. Some of scenes (Michelle playing with Barbies and jumping on a bed) are cringe inducing. She is a mature, professional woman, whose only desire is to behave as foolishly as a teenager.

Some stupid behavior can be accepted from teenagers, because they do not better (yet), but it is pathetic to see this grown-up woman doing her best to regress to her daughter's level. Not that adults have to behave always in wise and boring ways, but this movies implies that only way to live a satisfactory life is to remain juvenile throughout one's life. To top up this widespread refusal to grow up and accept responsibilities, in one scene, Rosie insults her daughter's teacher because he is not giving her good marks. This sounds aggressive and foolish, but I am sure nowadays most parents find it perfectly normal to blame the teachers for their children's ignorance and bad marks.

In the end, this is a sad, pathetic but also worrying portrait of how our society is evolving, or rather de-evolving on the way to eternal, mindless, shallow youth (real and fake) and refusal to accept any responsibility. And Jon Lovitz, in a small supporting role, is one of the most unbearable actors on the market.

Amy Heckerling brings forth a delightful romantic comedy centred around the romance between a younger man and older woman. But what makes this one different is the director's treatment. Heckerling's 'I Could Never Be Your Woman' follows the same style of her 'Clueless'. What I liked about the comedy is that the humour is quite dry and that goes very well with the mood and situations of the film. Unlike most recent movies of this genre, it does not heavily rely on slapstick or vulgarity. It is pretty much comprised of all kinds of comedy like satire, a bit of slapstick, innuendos, symbolism, visual jokes and wit. The whimsical soundtrack gives the movie an upbeat feel. Heckerling gently presents themes like people's obsession with youth, plastic surgery, looks mattering more than personality and talent.

Heckerling's exceptional cast The eternally gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer takes a break from the negative roles and delivers a splendid performance. I liked her chemistry with her co-stars. It's as though even after being a big movie star she really enjoyed working with the actors. Likewise, Paul Rudd gives a natural and hilarious performance. Everything he does is funny. Saoirse Ronan does an excellent job too. I liked her performance here more than what she did in 'Atonement'. The eternally hot Stacey Dash plays the bimbo very effectively (I can't believe she's actually 40 and yet she so right for the part). Jon Lovitz and Tracey Ullman are brilliant respectively as the image obsessed ex and the angry Mother Nature. It was great to see familiar British faces like Graham Norton and Sarah Alexander who superbly plays the passive aggressive unsuccessful seductress.

I also liked how Heckerling and the actors portrayed the relationships between the characters. It really comes across as authentic, natural and sincere. For example, the scene where Rosie and her daughter play with Barbies, Adam 'acting around' with everyone, Nathan's obsession with looking young, Rosie arguing with Mother Nature. Izzie's versions of 'Ironic'...these are all very genuine, clever and funny ideas and it is these little things that make 'I Could Never Be Your Woman' a unique gem.

The jokes are not funny, the romance is unbelievable, the scenes are written by the very people the film is criticizing and, when at least you think the point of view is somewhat fresh, they bury it in clichés.

Michelle Pfeiffer is still cute, but she's forty. And that's what the movie is focused on. It's a romantic comedy for your mom. Paul Rudd makes the entire film worth it, although he doesn't have to do much except clown around like a horny kid. That's his role, you see, being incredibly young at 29. That means I am not ancient, either, yippee!

Bottom line: this could have been written a little better and achieved a much higher level of quality. As such, one feels almost nothing. It's a movie about human chemistry that has no chemistry.

Surely those who gave it 1 were either deceived from expectations, or a little too stuck in the Hollywood receipt.

Granted, it's not a well made film. Slow pace, not constant, the script goes like my cat's eye balls after I twisted him for 10 seconds on the floor. But what makes it pleasant for a relaxed watching, is the 'realistic' situations/discussions/sayings. It's the kind of film that makes you say, hey we/I did the same, remember? Light, very light girls comedy/romance film, Michelle plays OK and sometimes we think she's acting from her own life experience.

So why bashing something that's not that bad. Relax on the sofa with a huge hot chocolate and give it a watch with 0 expectations.

We don't need to think so much why it didn't make much success, what we need is to accept the clearly truth. Is really hard to find a story like this and so sincerely, very well written, great story with very common situations that follow us those days.

Michelle, gorgeous, sexy as always, baggage for a few, and we see, funny and graceful, thanks! Sooirse, the child, beautiful and talented, cheerly voice, makes you think, how good is to be yourself, congrats and success. Nice crew, Paul, like a straight line, maintain his work spreading laughs, very nice to see that.

At the end, the combination of all this it creates a great time with someone or even alone, it doesn't matter, I just enjoyed what those people had done. Thank You!

I normally do not watch romantic comedies, but I do enjoy them, and am not averse to estrogen-laden cinema. This movie, however, was difficult to continue watching. Lovitz did good work, Rudd was pretty solid, Pfeiffer did not bring her best, although she still shines--albeit excessively--in this turd of a movie.

The most enjoyable part of this movie was trying to predict which lighting option was gonna hit Michelle Pfeiffer in each scene. And the other redeeming quality was Stacey Dash, she's beautiful. And Henry Winkler, the Fonz rules.

Save you money, do not watch this. Straight to DVD for many reasons.

I enjoy good romantic comedies - unfortunately , I've seen many bad ones. Thankfully, this Pfeiffer driven movie goes way up the good list. Yes, the plot is wafer thin, characters are mainly 2-dimensional, but if you're after a smile-on-your face-for-90-minutes time, then pick this up.There are some issues tackled within the movie (nature, education system,puberty, divorce, ageism) however all is done fleetingly,superficially, I might add, yet pleasantly. Pfeiffer radiates her beauty even at 50, whilst Lovitz, even though used sparingly, shines with great comedic timing. I was also surprised by the presence of Paul Rudd. I had my reservations on his capabilities, however his acting here is downright funny, yet done stylishly. Again,if you want to smile,rent this.

Somewhere I've seen Amy Heckerling being compared to Nora Ephron. This is probably a bad joke. Nora Ephron at her best - in When Harry Met Sally - is lightyears away from Amy Heckerling. Even Ephron's average work is much better than I Could Never Be Your Woman.

The movie achieves to feel contrived in almost every area, from the script to the musical score. The script is so stale, that Michelle Pfeiffer can be seen plodding through her lines. She does her best, but even though she's perfect for the role, it's obvious she will not be lingering on this movie as one of her favourite.

The musical score is a happy-go-lucky assortment of eighties hits and try as it might, the nostalgia just doesn't appear. The set, the people on it and the music just don't match. This is especially evident when the song "I Could Never Be Your Woman" from White Town is played. This ambiguous song could not be further removed from the neurotically happy Hollywood dwellers atmosphere painted in the movie of the same name. The result of the juxtaposition is that you feel grossed out.

I don't feel like wasting any more time on criticizing this sorry little mishap of a film, it doesn't deserve even that. I just recommend to steer clear of it.

I saw this last night (6/15/07) at The Maui International Film Festival. It is going to be categorized by some as a "Chick Flick", however the chemistry between Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd is undeniable. Since the film won't be released for a few months, I'm not going to go into any specific plot details, however Hollywood's obsession with youth, plastic surgery, and untalented pretty people is amusingly (and sometimes disturbingly) exposed.

Pfeiffer is a true movie star -- a brilliant actress and shamefully underrated comedian. And I would imagine that this film will likely be Paul Rudd's star-making vehicle. He's a talent power-house.

Other notable fine performances are give by the one and only Tracey Ullman as Mother Nature, and Saoirse Ronan as Pfeiffer's daughter.

I haven't laughed out loud at a movie in a long time, however I did last night -- many times. Judging from the reaction, laughter and applause of the hundreds of others in attendance, this movie is a winner.

Great movie. Surprised I didn't see it when it came out.

This was probably made before the new school hollywod crowd came into town, just for the fact that it doesn't suck.

How this film was ever produced beats me. The romance is unconvincing, it's not funny and the plot could send anyone to sleep. Not worth hanging on in for, as it doesn't get any better. Hopefully Graham Norton was well paid and unlike the other actors, he had little to lose. The director and writers have got it all wrong, I am not sure if they have had past successes but one thing is certain, they will find it hard to recover from this flop. The focus around the world of TV makes it even more self centered, making the viewer truly feel like they are on a different wave length.

Did I miss something? maybe the real punchline to every joke. If you've got any painting to do, go watch it dry rather than see this film.
