Great short flick - screened at CineVegas
vageliker20 July 2005
saw this one at CineVegas - was definitely the best out of the 5 or 6 (i forget) that played in its section. you totally feel for the guy, leo las vegas, in the middle of his burnt out career only to see him preyed upon by his ex-wife. ouch. happy i'm not in his shoes. great editing and strong directing. good short to catch!

plus director was able to get some cool outdoor locations for an indie short and there is an esp. memorable scene on top of some hot little vegas bar (wonder how much that cost).

good one to watch also if you're wondering what can be done with DV (v. nice cinematography).

i would have dug some more music but overall, this is one tight little film and very well done!

A man and woman with a dark past are reunited for one last night together.

This is a great effort by Wolfgang Muchow. Muchow did a good job making me care about the characters. I felt drawn to Leo, even though he was kind of a jerk. I knew there was a good guy there somewhere. I also like stories with the soul mate theme. The realistic tone of the movie was very appropriate, but the editing style was kind of distracting. I wanted to be in the moment more with the characters longer. Other than the editing, I really thought the direction was incredible and the acting was some of the best I saw at Cinevegas. I look forward to seeing what Muchow has in store for the future as I would definitely go and see another movie made by him.

A honey of a short that leaves you wanting more!

I viewed all of the short films at CineVegas as a favor to one of my lady-friends and was wondering what I was doing there until Leo Las Vegas was shown. Now that was a movie. As a mature woman, I've see all of the Tracy/Hepburn films and the interaction between Leo and Melanie had some of the same fire that those two had.

I hated Leo at first for what he did to Melanie, but when I saw her comeback, I realized that this was the way these two people communicated. They had a VERY physical relationship. And just as rough as they could be at times, Mr. Muchow, the Director, had them turn around 180 degrees and show amazing gentleness, kindness, and love for one another. My attention was grabbed the first minute of the film and when the short was over, I felt as drained as a swimming pool in the fall.

The acting was first rate, as was the directing, Leo's costumes, and all of the different background scenes that were shown. Personally, for myself, although I'm a bit long in the tooth, Leo is quite the heartthrob. I would like to see more of Leo and Melanie soon.

great short

WOW! This is one of the best shorts I have seen. I saw this at Cinevegas with bunch of other shorts... this one blew them away. It has the look and feel of a very large production. I loved the characters. They had issues with themselves and each other. I didn't know if I should like or hate Leo. Good shots of Vegas night life too presented in a way I have never seen.

My only regret is that this was too short. I would like to see this story and these characters in a feature length movie. The edgy style that Muchow used makes the pace of this movie really move. The moving camera and crisp editing gives it a documentary feel. I thought the ending was too easy and abrupt.

A well-directed, intense and honest film

Right out of the gate, LEO LAS VEGAS gets gritty and real with its unflinching look at an over-the-hill Las Vegas show performer, an interesting character story right off the bat. But of course, when you add in the arrival of his estranged ex-wife and her own agenda, it gets real interesting, real fast.

The director, Wolfgang Muchow does a great job never overlooking the details that define the title character's life, giving us juicy tidbits like the shoe polish in the hair and the long, LONG drink of booze before the show. Even little objects like a cheap lighter take on a deeper symbolism in his hands.

And even beyond that, raw and honest moments like the way Leo tries to hype himself up and the arrival and "greeting" of his ex-wife are unforgettable.

The film is cut at a kind of blazing pace, so you have to pay attention to get what's going on, but once you settle into the style, the story, the emotion, it's all there.

Great work for a first time director. Refreshing and ballsy. I look forward to his next.
