Awfully cute little cross-cultural romance
planktonrules11 February 2008
Pria is an Indian-Canadian teenager who thinks, almost non-stop, about being in the movies. However, for some time she doesn't realize that she has a very heavy Asian Indian accent. And, interestingly enough, when she narrates this short film, you hear her with a Western accent--and she explains that this is because this is how she hears herself. However, later when she hears an actual recording of her voice, she's shocked just how strong her accent is. When she notices a cute young man in the coffee shop each day, she longs to talk with him but is embarrassed by the accent. So, to rid herself of the accent, she practices lines from her favorite movies again and again and her family, naturally, thinks she's a bit crazy. After tireless hours of work, she finally is able to create a nice accent and she finally has enough confidence to approach the young man--and what happens next you'll have to see for yourself.

Well constructed and with a very unusual and likable style, this is one of the better shorts I've seen in some time. Give this one a look for it's gentle humor, romance and just because of its ability to tell a unique story. I sure hope to see more from the makers of this film.
