Apaches are attacking the fort and we hear the familiar yell, "Yo, Rinnie!" And Rin Tin Tin leaps into action pulling an Indian off his horse. Lt. Rip Masters and the troops rush out to chase the Indians. A grateful Cpl. Boone agrees with the saying that a dog is man's best friend. Boone is bringing a dispatch to Major Swanson. Masters hopes it has some answer to explain the Indian attacks. Masters suspect Geronimo. No, it's a notice that Col. Barker is coming for an inspection. To O'Hara that's worse than Geronimo, the last time Barker saw O'Hara, O'Hara got seven days in the guardhouse because his boots weren't shined. What will he do to all of them when he finds Rusty and Rin Tin Tin on base? Rusty and Rinty will have to be hidden. O'Hara recounts the story of how Rusty and Rinty came to the fort to fill the viewers in. O'Hara will be responsible for hiding them.
Unfortunately for O'Hara, Rusty hears Masters telling O'Hara to kick him and Rusty off the base. Rusty jumps to the conclusion they are being dumped, so he and Rinty hide from O'Hara making everything worse. Finally Rip finds them and explains the situation. Col. Barker is a martinet, he gives a trooper a week in guard house for an unpolished belt buckle.
Geronimo has sent an embassy to the fort. He wants his blood brother Zorak back. To that end, he demands a meeting with Col Barker. It's supposed to be a parley, but it's a trap. On their way to a hiding place, Rusty, O'Hara, and Rinty discover the trap. What to do? Rinty is sent to get Masters; O'Hara and Rusty join Col. Barker. Masters and the troops follow Rinty and save Col. Barkers' life.
It's illegal to have a civilian on the post, so Col. Barker makes Rusty an honorary corporal, and Rinty an honorary private of the hundred and first cavalry so they can remain on the post. Yo, Rinnie!
