I've seen better

This mediocre episode revolves around Archie's private club being investigated in the local paper because of discrimination in having only white members, and no minority members. Mike, who makes a short appearance, warns Archie that the club may not get a tax break if they don't change their ways, and even though Archie dismisses Mike's words, he eventually agrees that things must change; soon after, 3 other members(Harry, Barney, and Hank)comes to his house to discuss the matter in an official meeting, and they all agree to invite a black member who Hank works with, and you might recognize James McEachin, who portrays Solomon, whom I noticed him from several Matlock episodes. Archie invites Solomon to his house, and the 3 other dopes show up, not coincidentally, to urge him to join the club. The writing gets slightly pedestrian and not that funny at all here, as the men obviously can't hide the fact they want Solomon as an absentee member, and Solomon seems to be fooled at first, even though he eventually catches on and insists on inviting all his black and Jewish friends, which scares the members, and finally Archie adds that no one will beat them at basketball. There are many weak episodes in season 7, and the show was losing steam and lame story lines were all over the place. Since Mike and Gloria left the house, I think the writers struggled for laughs, and some of the shows aren't up to standards, such as this one and many others from 1977. I actually felt embarrassed a little by some of these episodes, and I am normally a huge fan of the show.

The boys invite a bigot into their club

Agree with another reviewer that is very pedestrian writing and not a very good episode. The whole point of them inviting Solomon because he's black and Jewish and they want To avoid the bigot label falls flat when Solomon uses a slur against another group of people, So Solomon being a bigot also would be right at home in their club. I have failed to figure out how they figured this episode would actually make a victim out of Solomon so to speak, and some of the writers apparently had no idea how to write an episode like this. They sure screwed up on this one. Very disappointing, especially for this show.
