During a routine patrol Cat fires her weapons and a round explodes in the barrel causing major damage to both her and Starbuck's Vipers. The investigation shows that it wasn't just bad luck or sloppy maintenance; the ammunition had been sabotaged. When the saboteur is tracked down it turns out that she is part of a group wishing to force Adama and Roslin to seek a peaceful settlement with the Cylons. While this is going on President Roslin's health is rapidly failing and she is having flashbacks to a time before the Cylon attack on Caprica where she spotted Baltar with the person now known as Cylon Number Six
are these real memories or just a delusion caused by her condition? As she is being taken to be treated she tells Adama that he is to terminate Sharon's baby as Dr. Cottle has told her there is something strange about it and she thinks it might be a threat to humanity. Baltar tries to persuade Adama to ignore her but he accepts the president's orders.
After the excitement of the previous three-episode story things are a little calmer this week; the confrontations are verbal rather than physical; that doesn't mean this wasn't an exciting episode though. There was plenty of tension regarding whether or not Roslin would succumb to her illness and what would happen to Sharon's baby. As always the acting was solid; the stand out performance this episode coming from James Callis as the flawed genius Dr. Gaius Baltar; he brilliantly portrayed the character who was acting heroically one moment and being self serving and treacherously the next. I won't spoil it here but his actions lead to a nice conclusion that will surely be returned to soon and when that happens the results are likely to be explosive.
