Arthur Hunnicutt and John Carradine

"Dead Wrong," both written and directed by Michael Landon (neither he nor Lorne Greene make an on screen appearance), is a hugely enjoyable story expertly weaving comedy and drama in a case of mistaken identity. Arthur Hunnicutt guest stars as Salty Hubbard, an old coot with a tendency to spin tall tales, which spells trouble for Hoss (Dan Blocker) and Candy (David Canary), arriving in town simply to make a hefty bank deposit. They drop by the local saloon to quench their thirst, money bags full of cash, just after Salty describes meeting up with a notorious bank robber named Big Jack, and soon all the townspeople are spooked into believing that our heroes are there to commit a robbery. Once they work up the nerve to confront the newcomers in their hotel, the real Big Jack (Mike Mazurki) unexpectedly pops up with every intention of continuing his larcenous ways, to the chagrin of the overworked bank clerk (Ivor Francis). In an attempt to spare Salty any embarrassment, Hoss pretends to be gunned down, later mistaken for a real corpse, as Preacher Dillard (John Carradine) is shocked to discover during the burial. Milton Parsons has good footage as the undertaker, sleeping in one of his own coffins and delivering the best line: "it's getting so a man can't get any rest in peace!" Making the second of his two appearances, the scene stealing Carradine (previously seen in 1961's "Springtime") barely has a minute and a half to garner his share of laughs but does not disappoint.

The title "dead wrong" fits well .... but not as intended

Every actor in this show did a superb job, but what was this goulash of a show supposed to be? This episode presented as well as a 12 years old girl with her mother's lipstick. I note the new director, which is the likely problem. Still, there were few brief funny moments, so I rate it 3, and pray for better shows in the future.
