THE BROTHERS BRANNAGAN – A Matter of a Million -1961

This series, which ran during 1960 to 1961, stars Stephen Dunne and Mark Roberts as a pair of brothers who are private investigators. The two are based in Phoenix, Arizona. The series ran for a total of 39 episodes. This is episode 38 in the series.

The boys, Stephen Dunne and Mark Roberts are hired by Joanna Moore to do some bodyguard work. Moore is afraid that an ex business associate is out to kill her. But Moore will not give them any more information than that.

Brother Dunne draws the first shift at Moore's apartment. Ever, the ladies man, Dunne pours the two a drink and commences with the small talk. They are interrupted by someone outside at the window. Dunne draws his weapon and has a look. Next thing he knows he is bashed over the head. Sometime later, Brother Roberts and Police Lt Paul Pryar are present. Dunne finally regains his senses and tells them what he recalls. Moore is gone, but there is a stiff with two bullet holes on the balcony. Exactly what the hell is going on here? A short time later, Moore phones and agrees to meet with the brothers. She swears she did not shoot the dead man. Dunne and Roberts hook up with Moore for a talk. Now they are joined by pistol packing, Narda Onyx. She gets the drop on the boys and disarms them. Onyx then gives Moore a bit of third degree about a piece of Aztec artwork.

Dunne manages to disarm Onyx with the help of Roberts. Before they can question Onyx, they are joined by Robin Hughes and a rather large gunman. The brothers loose there weapons again. Hughes now starts with the questions about this Aztec piece. It seems there is a million bucks hidden inside. All three, Moore , Onyx and Hughes are shady types after the loot. Onyx and Hughes know that Moore was the last one with the piece.

Hughes, wanting to get his point across to Moore, has his gunman, Jack Perkins, shoot and kill Onyx. Needless to say this has Moore more than happy to turn over the cash. The cash momentarily distracts Perkins and his boss, Hughes. The brothers make their move and a full-fledged knock down bout of flying fists ensues. The brothers come out on top and Police Lt Pryar and his boys in blue are summoned. They then turn to Moore. They now know the only reason Moore hired them was to have an alibi for killing the supposed stalker. The man was really her partner in stealing the Aztec piece with the hidden money. Why share if you don't have to.

This is a highly entertaining series that I wish had gone more than the one season.
