Angels Moonlight as Night Angels
hypestyle1 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Angels get hired by a woman who is the madam over a group of prostitutes who semi-openly operate in a Los Angeles apartment complex. It seems like someone, likely a man, is attacking blonde residents, more specifically, strangling them to death.

All three Angels go undercover as working prostitutes. There are some suspects, including the owner of a nearby restaurant, the restaurant's delivery man, and a psychiatrist who seems to have unusual insight to the potential killer's modus operandi.

This is an entertaining episode. Obviously, the Angels never actually do the deed their undercover job asks for-- this was airing on prime-time television, after all-- but there's some tension when Kris is expected to meet a wealthy yacht owner alone.

Bosley gets to help out of course, this time as the building's maintenance man.

Future "Hill Street Blues" co-star Michael Warren has a bit part here as a police lieutenant. The show really should have included him as a semi-regular police contact for Los Angeles cases.

The revelation of the killer happens mid-episode, so viewers will know who it really is, so that kind of spoils things, but it's still somewhat interesting to see the Angels finally catch on to who is behind everything (though a secondary suspect is no angel, by any means).

In the modern day, the safety of sex workers and the select decriminalization of it has become something of a social justice cause, so there's some intriguing relevance for modern audiences.

Marina Del Angels
adamcshelby25 July 2021
Prostitutes are being murdered at a Marina Del Ray apartment building so the Angels are hired by the building owner to investigate. Kelly and Kris go undercover as, what else, hookers, but are never put to work. There are two obvious suspects right from the beginning, Roman Vale, a restaurant owner, and super creepy (and agitated) Freddy as a pizza delivery guy who works for Vale. It's one of those episodes that's part of that faux tv reality that doesn't exist in real life.

Jeff Druce as Freddy gives a note perfect performance as the whacko who's hated by the girls he delivers pizza to. Paul Cavonis as Vale downplays his character's obsession, though it gradually emerges as the episode unfolds. He spends his time at his restaurant pining for his ex, who insists on eating at the restaurant with her new beau. Must have liked the lunch special.

Kris goes on a yacht and wears a bikini to meet one of the dead hooker's clients. He's an older retired guy who acts like an eccentric nut and who no doubt was going to go home and kill his wife after meeting Kris. He just seemed like that kind of guy.

There's an amusing scene at a pool where the Angels talk to a psychiatrist about what's motivating the killer. He spends most of his time ogling all the bikini clad girls walking around. The pool was a strange place to meet him.

The scenes with Freddy are the best, the girls hate him but keep ordering pizza from the same place. He keeps showing up and acting inappropriately, throwing the box at them or making lewd comments. Maybe order Chinese takeout next time? There's a closing bicycle chase (yes, a bicycle chase) through the marina that befits the way this episode treated the subject matter of prostitution. It's all a silly goof.
