Season Five take on ESP!
I_Love_Hutch16 November 2021
Each season had one episode devoted to the supernatural/metaphysical, etc. Season one had "The Seance", Season 2 had "Unidentified Flying Angels", Season 3 had "Haunted Angels" and Season 4 had "Of Ghosts and Angels: (my favorite of the bunch)

This episode manages the ESP element pretty well at the beginning, but when "Hansel and Gretel" becomes part of the plot and the kidnapped Kris herself is suggested to have some ESP capabilities, it was too silly.

But the episode is not boring. Cameron Mitchell always plays dark and creepy well and Jane Wyman is warm and sympathetic. I think her performance is my favorite part of this episode. Not the most shining endorsement for a crime drama to say that Jane Wyman is the highlight. Oh, well. 7/10.

Hard to believe Kris is a detective in this episode. Warning: Spoilers
Kris is driving along an empty beach highway and gets purposely run off the road by a mysterious truck. After swerving off the road and onto the beach, she just sits in her car as three menacing people exit the truck and begin walking towards her.

Being a detective, her first instinct should be to be on high alert and defensive and reach for the gun in her purse on the passenger seat. Instead, she exits the car unarmed when the three menacing people reach her car and begins to antagonize them about their lousy driving. What the hell?!

Where are her detective instincts here?! Her actions are so out of character and way too open and trusting for someone with her work experience as a detective that it's laughable. I can't imagine Sabrina, Jill or Kelly being this naive and stupid.

When she finally figures out their intentions, it's too late and she's easily kidnapped and taken away. After this incident, Charlie should've fired her ass on the spot.

Silly season in the 50th state

Visiting Hawaii the Angels lose Kris to kidnappers. Very much like the last episode with Jill in season 4: A crazed father (Cameron Mitchell) with two dominated kids, in this case a boy and a girl. Only, they target Kris for the death of the family mother, whom Kris arrested and who died in police custody. These days society would have *Kris* up on charges and if she was found not guilty they'd burn down a town or two with no repercussions. Welcome to America's mobocracy. I think in the twenty-first century Mitchell would be a hero for wanting to kill a cop.

Jane Wyman (the erstwhile Mrs Ronald Reagan, apparently a real pain in the neck, if not lower, on "Falcon Crest" and othrwise in real life) plays a psychic who helps out. Or does she have an ulterior motive?

Do you believe in psychic activity? I don't. But where fiction is concerned I can go with the flow. I've accepted stupider things for the sake of a story.

On the other hand, the other two Angels and Bosley doing nothing investigative other than cruising around with a psychic is kind of goofy. Thank goodness women insist on accessories.

Take HANSEL AND GRETAL seriously.
