Thief's bad luck
bkoganbing22 February 2016
Dean Stockwell's performance as the Nathan Leopold like character in Compulsion no doubt led to his casting in this role in Checkmate. He's a brilliant kid whose car is stolen and it turns out grabbing his car was part of an overall scheme I won't get into.

It was the car thieve's bad luck to have Stockwell eye witness their crime. Worse luck for them in that stealing his car they ran down and killed one of his fraternity brothers.

These two who were eye balled dead bang by Stockwell work for Henry Jones. Let's say that Stockwell has some plans for Jones as well.

The Checkmate regulars are more witnesses than participants in this story. Turns out Stockwell is one of Sebastian Cabot's most brilliant students.

Plenty of cat and mouse
VetteRanger17 November 2022
This episode has a complicated plot with plenty of cat and mouse, as a brilliant college student (Dean Stockwell) bears a grudge against a notorious fence ... two of whom henchmen killed his friend and frat brother as they stole his car.

The police openly tell Stockwell the man the two thieves work for, as they are rapidly discovered and arrested in the commission of the crime they stole the car to pull off.

Stockwell develops a plan to catch the fence (Henry Jones), and the fence has resources of his own to figure out Stockwell and what he might be planning.

Checkmate becomes involved to keep Stockwell from committing a murder and ruining his life.
