Mmmmm

The first scene features Laura in a short tennis skirt.

The remainder of the episode could hardly be expected to maintain that level of interest.

Stacey's back...and more awkward than ever
planktonrules12 December 2023
In season one, Dick Van Dyke's real life brother, Jerry starred in two episodes as Rob's younger brother, Stacey. In these episodes, Stacey has a weird form of sleepwalking where an alternate personality pops out. Eventually, he learns to bring out this personality when he's awake.

Now in "Stacey Petrie: Part I", Stacey is back. He comes to the Petrie household for several reasons. First, he was just discharged from the Army. Second, he's going to be opening up a night club. And, third, he's going to visit a woman he's fallen in love with and has been corresponding with for years...though she THINKS he's his friend, Jim....as shy Stacey's been signing Jim's names to the letters. In many ways, it's like Cyrano de Bergerac...and the resolution to this occurs in "Stacy Petrie: Part II".

In "Stacey Petrie" Part I", Stacey is so nervous about meeting the woman in person and proclaiming his love to her, he wants to go on a practice date...especially since he's super-shy. What follows is a total disaster...and something you just have to see to believe.

Overall, Jerry is funny but I'm glad they didn't put him in even more episodes because his episodes leave me worn out!

Stacie Petrie - Part One - Trivia & Corrections
mediaguy19517 March 2012
I vividly remember going to actually see this episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show being filmed back way back when! Just one correction in the details about this episode (and all Dick Van Dyke episodes), they were actually filmed at Desilu Studios at 847 Lillian Way (Desilu Cahuenga) in Hollywood, not on Washington Blvd in Culver City. This show, as most filmed shows of that era, was filmed about three months prior to airing. Normally, that would be okay but because this was a "Part One", I had to wait months to see the outcome of the story when Stacey Petrie - Part Two aired. The story lines of The Dick Van Dyke Show were honest and funny. Truly a class act. Dick and Jerry worked so well together on these two episodes. Interestingly, Carl Reiner wrote this episode and his son, Rob, was an executive at Spyglass productions in the 1080's, the production company for Sienfeld. The Dick Van Dyke Show and the pilot for Seinfeld were both shot on the same stage. Sort of a Deja Vu.
