This is one of at least four episodes that "Dragnet" made like this--ones where the detectives find themselves manning a desk. In one, they were at the juvenile department desk, in another for robbery division and at another they are manning the phones during a potential natural disaster. Here, they are working at the hospital--dealing with police-related cases as they come up at the medical center--in particular, psychiatric cases. Like these other episodes, a wide variety of cases are dealt with during the show.

The first is about a deranged man who is angry at a radio host and has threatened violence towards him. By talking with the family and friends the police determine that he's not been taking his medication and a gun has vanished.

Another case is a seemingly lost man who has just been sitting in a hotel lobby for many hours. It turns out to be a Basil Jennings--a man with whom the police are well acquainted. He's harmless and kind of cute.

A guy comes in to the emergency room. He says a woman in his car has passed out and is sick. She's not sick...she's dead....very, very dead! Oddly, in spite of this he claims he doesn't even know who she is--and this story makes no sense at all.

There is a shooting. Friday's job is to try to get a dying declaration from the victim before he passes.

Overall, very, very familiar territory for the show. It's good, but not original enough to consider it anything more than just an average show.
