A bit of a letdown.

"The Traitor" is a subpar episode of "The F.B.I.", though subpar still makes it enjoyable to watch. But I think it was subpar because a lot of small details seemed to be done poorly. More about this later in the review.

The story begins at a fleabag motel. The elevator is out of order but the sign fell off...and a man enters the defective elevator. Soon, the cable to the elevator snaps and he plunges to his death. On his body, they found some government secrets....obviously the man was a spy and it's surmised he was going to the tenth floor to meet his contact. So, agents track down what little they know about the unknown man on the 10th and Erskine goes to the company whose secrets were found on the dead man. And, while they're doing this, the spy network is looking for some other person to bring them the documents they want.

There were several details the show just got wrong. FIrst, while it was cool seeing the elevator cable snap, this is just not normally possible. I did some research and this only happened once...once. And, it was after a B-25 bomber collided with the Empire State Building in 1945...and this caused the cable to snap! Supposedly the stories in the show are based on real cases....this can't be true in this case or perhaps they are only BROADLY based on real cases . Second, when Agent Colby went to the room that spy must have been waiting in, he doesn't use gloves and begins touching all sorts of things..probably contaminating evidence. I just cannot imagine an agent doing this...perhaps some small-time police department's new hire, but not a trained and experienced FBI agent. Third, when the spies realize they have no more use for a man they used, they shoot him....in the shoulder. Then, they leave to place...as if nothing happened. Since when is a person killed by being shot in the shoulder? And, why shoot him if you plan on letting him live? Fourth, the security at the company where the secrets were stolen has the worst security on the planet and this did not improve after Erskine informed them that their files were compromised. All in all, just too many sloppy details to make this a good episode.
