Trying to grow up too fast

Warning: Spoilers
Watching this episode was a good reminder of how much teenage boys want to be men or at least do adult men things. Sandy is chomping at the bit to get out there and see the movie stunt man in action. When the stunt man(Joe) aggravates an old injury injured and lies down, the reasonably experienced diver in Sandy said "go for it". If it was me at 16, I would have! Of course the plot glosses over the fact that Sandy is on a boat maybe only a couple of hundred yards from the director doubling for Joe who is 4 inches taller, 40 pounds heavier and at least 10 years old than Sandy and no one notices! I'm guessing Porter is just relieved his boy is alive because a year earlier, he threatened to put Sandy over his knee for a lesser infraction. I guess the script writers are giving Porter more leeway as his boys grow older.

The episode was also an interesting insight into the logistics of underwater filming - something that the cast of Flipper were around almost every episode and yet here it is in front instead of behind the camera. One of the extras playing part of the film crew is actually Jordan Klein Sr who was the Director of Underwater Photography for all the Flipper shows and he went on to become a legend in the industry eventually winning an Oscar for his work. This is also one of only four episodes in the entire series to not feature Bud said to be on a scout campout.

Look Dad, I'm all grown up!

Warning: Spoilers
Sandy sure does pull a doozy in this episode! With his younger brother at a cub scout outing and his father on the other side of the island, Sandy is excited about working with a stunt man on an underwater stunt. But when the stunt man injures his back, Sandy decides to do it himself without anyone's knowledge! He studies what he's supposed to do in the script, then goes to do the stunt. But trouble arises. The worst part is - only Flipper knows Sandy is down on the bottom of the ocean!

The most shocking part comes at the very end. I was very disappointed in the father's reaction. It was sort of like, "Oh yeah that was kinda cool and I"m sure you learned your lesson." Sandy and Bud were severely punished in the first season for doing things not as bad as this, yet in this episode Sandy isn't punished at all. Apparently different writers?
