Sgt. Carter is fed up. He wants to get away from all the knuckleheads like Gomer Pyle. So he decides to become an officer. Pyle decides to become an officer too. They both take the test. Pyle passes, but Carter fails. Uh-oh. Carter is shattered. He failed where Pyle succeeded. How can he ever live with himself? That's the gist of the episode and it goes from there.
