"Well, it was no accident - it was murder."

Warning: Spoilers
A dying man's last act is to give Honey a snow globe. Honey doesn't understand why, but quickly learns that others are willing to kill to get it.

Yesterday, I decided to re-watch the Honey West series. I had completely forgotten how addictive these episodes are. They're like crack – once you start, you're hooked. Anne Francis is just so watchable. She makes Honey West better than it should. The Abominable Snowman is another nice outing for Honey. The high speed car chase (What a car! And, what a driver!), Honey's dark-haired disguise, and the final fight scene are all highlights. But what I like most about this episode is the twist at the end. It worked. I didn't see that coming at all. Very nicely played.

In this episodes edition of Name That Character Actor, we have two winners: Henry Jones (another one of those "You'd know him if you saw him" kind of guys) and Leon Askin (best known as General Burkhalter from Hogan's Heroes). Casts like this are another reason I enjoy Honey West so much.

The Abominable Snowman
Prismark1010 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Some location shooting at Griffith Observatory. A high speed car chase leading to Honey West's client to die and a snow globe.

Then there is that car phone, handy to call the police.

Honey and Sam bicker as they try to figure out the importance of the snow globe. At the same time some baddies are after Honey and there is a European tycoon who has thrown a lavish party.

The snow is cocaine and it was a way to distribute the profits at a party.

I wonder if Quentin Tarantino was inspired by the action in this episode for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

SALUTE TO THE CAMPY BAD GUYS

Veteran Paul Wendkos directed this episode and he got the most from the cast. A good director makes a difference and it shows in a fast-paced story about cocaine being stashed in paper weights. Now that's clever! There's a wild car chase at the beginning which kind of reminds you of an episode from MANNIX, complete with the car running off a cliff. Super supporting cast with sly Henry Jones playing Reedy, the guy with a secret plan. Burly Leon Askin as the Count is a hoot, playing a GOLDFINGER type in a wheelchair! Familiar face Barry Kelley appears as Lt. Stone, who was a regular on PERRY MASON and, of course, Carol's frustrated dad on MISTER ED who always thought Wilbur was a kook. Remember him? Cool scene with Honey giving some karate chops to a bad guy in an elevator and a bubble bath scene as Honey (in the tub) chats with ole Aunt Meg (Irene Hervey). Recommended for tv buffs. SEASON 1 EPISODE 3 FINALLY on dvd in glorious black and white.
