Judge Deed presides over the trial of three gang members charged with the murder of a rival drug pusher. Behind the scene the Home Office is trying to put an end to "Trial by Jury," which it regards as an economic luxury.
Unfortunately for the judge this particular case has been marked as a typical example and Deed is pressured to make a decision he is philosophically opposed to.
As the trial proceeds the star witness, a prostitute, is brutally murdered. Furthermore 2 jurors are bashed and threatened by the accused family. For a while it would appear the Home Office is going to have its way.
A side story is the effort by Deed's long suffering girl friend to adopt a boy left orphaned when a client dies.
I like this series. It can be a little long winded at times. But the clever plots and character development leave you feeling satisfied.
