ANOTHER STUPID AND CHILDISH EPISODE
asalerno1026 May 2022
The Robinsons descend on a large spaceship and its inhabitants confuse Penny with the missing daughter of the Queen of their civilization, they take advantage of their physical resemblance to trick the Queen into being named princess. It is difficult to finish watching this episode in its entirety, it is poorly developed, the story is silly, the decorations repeated and the stupid aliens, one of the worst in the series.

More of the same as the series continues its downhill slide towards termination

Yet another 'space pirate' shows up, this one intent on winning a reward by passing off Penny as a missing princess. Needless-to-say, Smith sees Penny's potential promotion as a key to his own advancement. This is another one of the goofy kid-friendly episodes dressed up with period piece props (this one blending 18th century buccaneers and barristers), a clumsy 'fairy-tale' aesthetic, and silly 'action' scenes. Sheila Allen (wife of the show's producer Irwin Allen) has all the best lines (such as they are) while Arte Johnson (of 'Laugh-in' fame) doesn't do much and Robert Foulk as Captain Kraspo is just loud and annoying. By this point in its three-year run, the show was running out of ideas and failing both as science-fiction and as comedy (but I probably still liked it when I was nine).

Non-sense, Utterly Stupid
bigfrankie-434642 January 2023
Princess of Space is stupid and terrible. It is a mess.

Watch this only if you want to view every episode. It is on par with some of the very worst Season Two episodes.

About two thirds of the way though it, Major West has a very appropriate line. Judy asks him "what are we going to do?". He responds "As soon as this non-sense it over, I'll figure out a way to get us out of this"!

Penny is kidnapped because she is believed to be a lost princess. The episode feels a lot like Season Two's "Mutiny in Space" and is almost as bad. The bellowing is toned down just a little, but made up for by name calling that is neither funny nor villainous. Just about every attempt at humor falls flat.

And there is plenty of overacting, especially by (Angela) Penny.

A minor bright spot is Penny dressed like a princess interacting with "Aunt Gamma". It has a Wizard of Oz Good Witch/ Dorothy feel to it (probably intentional). But even those few moments can elevate this totally stupid non-sense.

Prof Robinson and Mrs. Robinson only appear briefly.

Terrible

Penny is confused as being a space princess.

Lost In Space generally gets several episode reviews and the fact that I am the first to review this episode (in 2016) seems to reveal that there is something wrong with this hour. Yes there is.

Granted, I am aware that there are many devoted Angela Cartwright fans reading this, and such fans might get a buzz out of this adventure, but for everyone else...Princess Of Space is back-to-season-two-campy- terrible.

Even Cartwright herself probably thought the episode was bad when she was acting in it as she revealed (in 1995's The Fantasy Worlds Of Irwin Allen) that "I liked it (LIS) when there was some sort of message, but when it got really silly...those are the ones (episodes) I don't like".

I can even say that this is worse than the soon to come Great Vegetable Rebellion (aka The Talking Carrot Show)...at least that gave Guy Williams some screen time.

Not science fiction, not clever fantasy like the Mr Farnum episodes, but just too stupid for words plot ideas that belong in I Dream Of Jeannie...not Lost In Space.

Angela Cartwright gets another chance to overact.
gregorycanfield26 April 2022
This is the kind of episode that only a true Lost in Space fan will appreciate. The story is pretty silly, but it can also be a lot of fun. There are two liabilities here. Guest star Robert Foulk and Angela Cartwright, herself. As Captain Kraspo, Foulk looked a mess. His loud, abrasive performance didn't help. Angela overacts here, in more ways than can be counted. At the start of the episode, Penny is looking at what appears to be a magic carpet. She hears a voice say: "Do you want to be a princess, or not?" She then screams and runs away. Why should this have made her scream? She had already seen (as opposed to only hearing) worse things than this. Also, why was Penny chosen as the princess? Why not Judy? Penny was pretty, but Judy was beautiful. In any case, this is a campy, silly, but enjoyable episode. I'm pretty sure this was the only episode that had three official guest stars (Foulk, Arte Johnson and Sheila Mathews).

Angela As Ingrid Bergman
fshepinc19 August 2023
The Lost In Space writers clearly watched the 1956 Ingrid Bergman film, Anastasia, before sitting down to write this way-out, silly episode. Despite the outer-space setting, the plot remains the same: a beautiful girl is coached by an unscrupulous military man to impersonate a lost princess, culminating in an interview with her only surviving near-relative to establish her identity.

Angela Cartwright assumes the Ingrid Bergman role as the alternately willing and unwilling princess-to-be, with guest star Robert Foulk in the Yul Brynner part. Neither actor, of course, is up to the famous roles thrust on them, but they play it for the laughs in the absurd script. Unfortunately the genuine laughs are few and far between. Instead we get pratfalls and a general air of silliness, and more than a little overacting.

This is not the worst episode of Lost In Space, but it's right up there (down there?) with some of the other silly episodes. I wonder if Ingrid ever saw it?
