Sail to Dallas? No! Dallas is Sailing With You!
WalterKafka2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
'Men! They're all turkeys!' It is November. 1980. It's a 90 minute episode, sandwiched between a pair of two-parters. We're spoiled here. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are back! They're being sponsored by an oil boss (Dale Robertson.) One of the cheerleaders is coming under his pursuit. She uses Gopher to throw him off. His top salesman is David Cassidy (complete with mustache.) An Arab Prince is here too. His bodyguard is played by the unmistkable H. B. Haggerty. David accidentally presents one of the Cheerlealders to the Prince. 'Allah Be Praised!' he says. David's got a problem. This could be the best thing for his career. A Major and his wife are here. She comes on wearing traditional Japanese clothes, just so you know that she's Japanese. Jo Anne Pflug is the Major's old friend. Will they, uh, reunite? Julie sees what Jo Anne is doing, and she intends to stop it. She even goes to the Major's wife. 'Do you own a bikini?' she asks. (Julie understands that we need ratings here.) For some reason, Julie plays the defender of marriage here. Julie's gonna teach Suki to disco! Another salesman is fleeing from his cheating fiance. But they want to make sure that Mr. Fleer doesn't find out. Maybe he can smootch a cheerleader in the 'Window' room. Isaac is, uh, confused. Eventually he gets the queer idea that one of the men is cheating on the other - with a woman! This one doesn't rise to such great heights. We're back to being setbound. Jo Anne's hair is at least 10 years out of date. She looks like an Astronaut's wife. Pflug was usually pretty square, so she's against type here as the sexy one. The casting isn't as much fun. True, I'm not complaining about Pat Harrington as an Arab Prince. That's good work. Isaac has a sharp blue jacket. You know, we haven't seen Danny Bonaduce yet. (Spoilers: We never will.) Why are the Cheerleaders on pool duty in such dowdy swimsuits? 'Captain, you have the instincts of a desert warrior.' There's a good lesson here. Ladies, you've got to be sexy for your husbands. On Kafka's Love Boat Scale, this episode gets 2 1/2 * out of a possible 4 *.
