This could have gone in a very dark but true to life direction

Warning: Spoilers
I hate this who for so many reasons. But what bothers me the most is that people think it's funny because it satirizes dysfunctional families and "middle to lower class life". While that can be done right. It doesn't work for this show, because everything from the characters, the themes, topics, and subject matters, are all negative and only represent the porblems with society, and the problematic people we encounter everyday and who ruin other peoples lives all over the world with their cruelty, bullying, and selfish behaviors. Hal's Birthday is in my opinion, could have taken a dark turn, and the escalation, in the middle of the episode Francis comes home and reveals he's married, which leads to a huge fight between him and his mom. If this show was really smart and really edgy and wanted to be tasteless, or do something really serious, then Francis would've killed Lois. I know that's dark and completely out of character, but in reality that would be the natural outcome at that very moment. While Lois is not psychically abusive, he does mentally, emotionally and psychologically abuse her kids, friends and family. Which is a form of Abuse, and it is evil. Francis's life up till this point has been ruined by his own actions, and his mom's abusive methods, if this were real life, this would be the breaking point for Francis, the point where he realizes that his mom is so controlling, cruel, and out of control, that she can't be satisfied with someone who he's happy with and wants to spend the rest of his life with, and while yes i agree the marriage happened too quick, that's not the point; the point is Francis would have finally snapped and have killed his mom if this were real life. If the creators of this show had gone that route, then this would be one of the biggest turning points in the history of TV, and would've turned this comedy into a real-life tragic tale of abuse, selfishness, matricide and self-destruction. Obviously they were never going to do that. But if they did, then i wouldn't be surprised, because two wrongs don't make a right, and that abuse of any kind will lead to great punishment.
