THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Giuoco Piano Affair – 1964

This is the seventh episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in B/W with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

This one is a continuation of episode 3, The Quadripartie Affair. Anne Frances and John Van Dreelen are the two THRUSH types who had escaped at the end of that episode. The two had then faked their death in a shipwreck in the Med. The two now show up in the Andes Mountains causing no end of trouble. Vaughn, McCallum and guest star, Jill Ireland head south to put the grip on the unsavoury pair.

Francis and her man escape into the hills after setting up a shipboard bomb to take out Agent Vaughn. Vaughn escapes in the nick of time with crooked Policeman, James Frawley in tow. Meanwhile, the villains are chasing Miss Ireland and McCallum through the various hills and valleys.

Vaughn manages to arrive in the nick of time with a group of not so crooked Police, and save the day. THRUSH boss, Van Dreelen is killed and his partner, Anne Francis is slapped in cuffs for a long stay in prison.

The director is again Richard Donner.

Warning: Spoilers
For such an evil woman, Ann Francis again has so little to do in this episode, a continuation of episode 6.

She and her lover are back to thwart UNCLE with their weapons while hiding out in the Andes Mountains.

Again, Jill Ireland is recruited by UNCLE to thwart all this by allowing herself to be kidnapped. They even place a monitor in a necklace worn around her neck. Obviously, this is obvious so a back-up monitor has been implanted in her.

Treachery abounds here with an Andes police official again proving that money is the root of all evil.
