Great Guest Cast But Story Should Have Been Darker
kgraovac19 November 2023
This episode features a great guest cast. It's too bad the script couldn't have been either sleazier or more gothic, considering the subject matter of a former child star suffering mental issues. "Baby Jane" anyone?? Ruth Roman excelled at playing overbearing mothers. Listen for her delivery when she surveys Belinda's apartment: "What a hole!". If you haven't already seen it, check out the mind-blowing flick THE BABY that was released a year after this where Roman really lets loose.

There is something intriguing about Cathy Burns' performance as the complicated Belinda. She comes off as very schizo and a little "off". Not sure if that was an intentional acting choice, but it makes you feel as though you are actually watching a real person living through this, instead of an actress just earning a paycheck. Burns would have done well in '70s Exploitation flicks for this reason.

Does anyone know if Lynne Marta provided the singing voice for Belinda? It sure sounds like her and she would lend her voice to the musical episodes of CHARLIE'S ANGELS a few years later.

BTW, Peggy Lipton wrote the lyrics to the songs heard in this one. She released an album on Ode Records in 1968. I bought the CD and it's actually pretty good if you like that 1960s Jackie de Shannon/Vikki Carr style of music.
