This is my favorite Mr. Novak episode. As a Jazz musician, it really brought home many of the issues that fledging kids go through as they pass through High School. In this show, Jo Jo Rizo played by Johnny Crawford is the son of a Jazz musician. He is shy by nature an average student, but has a great musical talent on trumpet. Mr. Novak becomes aware of another student played by Tommy Sands. That character is flamboyant, good looking and very popular. He is also a very nice " high school" musician with a flashy trumpet style. The Sands character decides to drop out of school to pursue a career as a professional trumpet player. The rub is that he is an excellent student with huge college potential. Enter Novak. Novak sets up a cutting session between the two students. If Sands loses, he stays in school. Let the games begin!
