For the love of Sally
ShadeGrenade20 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Sally ( Madelaine Mills ), a new clippie, has started work at the depot. She is also Blakey's niece. Ignorant of this fact, Stan and Jack are smitten immediately, and rush home to change. Poor Stan has to compete with his family for use of the bathroom. Jack turns up for work in a hideous trendy yellow flower shirt ( all the rage at the time. I had one, although it was blue! ).

Stan tries to persuade his family to go out that night to see a Swedish film, but then Jack shows up and reminds them that 'Manhunt' ( an L.W.T. drama set in Occupied France, and starring Peter Barkworth ) is on the television. They stay to watch...

What was Blakey thinking of doing allowing his pretty niece to work at the Luxton bus depot? It is like putting a shoal of minnow in a tank full of piranha fish. Anyway, it is a good episode. The very attractive Mills reprised the role of 'Sally' in 'Going Steady'.

'Manhunt' was, incidentally, released on D.V.D. earlier this year. I liked it at the time, but found the 26 episodes hard-going. I could not really recommend it to anybody.

Funniest Moment - Arthur is about to have dinner, when Mum tells him that Stan used his fork to clean his fingernails and his knife to scrape mud off his boots. "I dread to think what he did with the spoon!", he quips.

Beware Uncle Cyril.
Sleepin_Dragon15 September 2022
Stan and Jack both compete for the attentions of new clippy, the beautiful young Sally, the trouble is she's Blakey's niece.

It's a funny episode, with plenty of amusing moments, the best being where Stan's evening is sabotaged by Jack, I also loved the bit where Stan made off on the bus.

There was something funny about men in the 70's, and the way they were portrayed in film and screen, the likes of Reg Varney, Sid James etc being irresistible to beautiful young women, amusing really.

There's a nice sequence at the end where Stan and Jack confront Uncle Cyril, and just for a second you see Stephen Lewis's resolute stuff upper lip just slip for a second to produce a smile.

I'm speechless by some of the fashions, you have to chuckle at the outfits worn by both Stan and Jack, absolutely hideous.

8/10.

''You will have to let me know when to start you off and stop you!''

Warning: Spoilers
Stan and Jack are picked to train up a new clippie. They balk at the idea until they discover that she is a stunning red head. This is Sally, who turns out to be none other than Blakey's niece. Both Stan and Jack spruce themselves up to impress her and Stan is the one who is victorious in arranging a date with her.

Stan tries to send his family off to the cinema so he can have fun with Sally but then Jack comes round to sabotage his plans.

The gorgeous ( and now sadly deceased ) Madelaine Mills makes her debut as Sally in this hilarious episode. It would appear that after this episode she must have continued her relationship with Stan as in the later episode 'Going Steady' the two plan their engagement, Her character would appear to undergo a personality change however. Here she seems down to earth and pleasant, in 'Going Steady' she ends up becoming as overbearing and pompous as her uncle.

Funniest bit - Sally telling Stan she only would date a man if he was clean shaven and had clean fingernails. Stan goes to great lengths to hide his obvious stubble and dirty fingernails!
