THE PROFESSIONALS – "Killer with a Long Arm" – 1978
Episode four of the of the 1977 to 1983, UK, action-crime series, THE PROFESSIONALS. Gordon Jackson is in charge of CI-5, a group of men drawn from the SAS, Police and other law enforcement agencies. Their mandate is to stop acts of terrorism and threats against the UK.
CI-5 gets called in when a motorcycle Policeman is shot making a routine traffic stop. The car the shooter was in is found an hour later. The Police discover a compartment in the car built to hold a long range sniping rifle. CI-5 figures it will be used to kill a government type.
Clues soon lead agents, Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins to look for a Greek hit man. The shooter, Michael Latimer, has been brought in to bump off a visiting Greek diplomat. Several Greek ex-pats, Milos Kirek and Alan Tivren, are less than amused with the present Greek Government. This will be their way of making a protest.
Hit man Latimer sees nothing wrong with calibrating his special rifle by shooting several people dead. CI- 5 soon narrows down the list of possible targets to the visiting diplomat. Collins and Shaw also pinpoint the likely location for the assassination attempt, the center court at the Wimbledon tennis tournament. From there, they figure a likely location for the shooter to fire from.
Doors are kicked, guns drawn and used, as the CI-5 agents stop the would be killers in a hail of bullets. Both Latimer and Kirek are killed in the exchange.
A slick bit of entertainment with plenty of violence to go around.
