Romantic Story

Warning: Spoilers
Shane does everything he can to make sure Marion is able to go to a dance that is three days away. You can tell by what he doesn't say as much as what he does that he wants to take her to the dance. He can see her heart, and he knows. Shane loves Marion so much that he will move heaven and earth to make sure it happens.

Shane is much more than a hired hand. He declares to the whole family that they ARE going to the dance. He takes charge and makes this decision. He KNOWS Marion wants to go...Without consulting the mother or grandfather, Shane takes Joey to Ryker's to talk to him about laying off the homestead until they return. Tom argues, but Shane's mind is made up. Yep, I'd say he's more than a hired hand.

Then when some Indians come and take Marion's dress, Shane takes off after it. Marion declares "It's just a dress." I LOVE what Tom says: "It's not 'just a dress' anymore than Shane is 'just a hired hand!'

And the ending is absolutely romantic! Any cowboy that would go out of his way and humble himself the way he did for Marion is a keeper. I hope Marion is smart enough to hold on to him...

Most amazing, this story was written by a man.
