Arriving home after seeing Chester and Claire together,Jessica tells Mary that their families have a curse on them,to which Benson agrees, saying "well,if there isn't,there should be." Corinne makes another attempt to talk to Father Tim,who prays to God that things might get a little easier. The Godfather(making his last appearance in the series)makes a house call on the Campbells, failing to identify Danny, disguised as a rabbi looking for donations.Burt arrives home after his session with the doctor, ready to make up for 6 months of celibacy, but Mary is too distraught about both her sons that she's not in the mood. And Jodie, devastated to learn that Dennis plans to marry a girl, decides to swallow 45 pills in a desperate suicide attempt. As he lies down to die,Barney Gerber chooses this moment to share his life story, about his radiant first wife, and her tragic death, followed by another wife, totally different from the first, who also met a sudden, unexpected demise. While Barney speaks about moving forward in life,a tearful Jodie quietly slips away.

The Godfather pays Mary a visit in search of Danny, but his efforts are fruitless as Danny manages to outsmart him. Jodie is pushed to drastic action after Dennis announces that he's marrying his girlfriend Jill.

Maybe not the same degree of brilliance as the previous episode, but it wasn't too far off.

Sharp, witty and sad at times, this tenth episode has a hell of a lot going for it, including one of the taboo subjects, suicide.

Such an incredibly powerful and moving scene between Jodie and Dennis, we get to see the best of Billy Crystal here, a phenomenal performance once again.

It does raise an interesting point, the show was definitely ahead of its time, but society wasn't, and Dennis was right, had he been outted, it would have been the end of his career.

Harold Gould puts in another star turn as Barney, what a brilliant actor, with a sublime sense of timing. Barney's scenes with Jodie were something else.

9/10.
