Episode 83 features a quick honeymoon for Chester and Annie
kevinolzak17 May 2010
Episode 83,the third one-hour Monday broadcast, begins with Burt,Billy,Dutch,El Puerco,Juan One,and The Major rescuing Jodie and Maggie from the dungeon, with Saunders saving little Wendy by delivering the final blow to the Minja guard(the most unbelievably simple-minded conclusion to an extended plot line that lasted 4 months). The long-imprisoned Digger(Ralph Manza)asks Burt how President Eisenhower is doing, with the reply being that Ike has passed on(Digger:"oh my God,that means that Nixon is President!") Mary has been seeing a doctor for fainting spells, which allows her to reconcile with her sister(Jessica:"Mary, when we broke up I just didn't know what to do because I couldn't talk to my best friend and tell her about my sister and I couldn't go to my sister and tell her about my best friend because you were both and I didn't have anyone to talk to...it was just one of those times when there was no terrific thing to do,and to tell me or not to tell me,both of them were terrible!") Dining at a Japanese restaurant(with Fred Iwasaki back for a third episode as The Chef),Maggie proposes marriage to Jodie, who wants to be sure that he's no longer gay and can make her life happy, deciding to see a psychiatrist,Dr.Rudolph(the delightful George Wyner),who believes he can become famous using Jodie as a test subject("I did have to take that ridiculous oath!"); under hypnosis, the mesmerized Jodie wakes up a 90-year-old Jew named Julius Kassendorf, living in the 1950's(Jodie:"you wake me up in time for THE RIFLEMAN!").Danny confronts Burt about Gwen's disappearance, leaving behind a note saying that she couldn't marry him because she doesn't love him; initially concerned,Burt forgets about Danny once the Governor phones him to set up a golf date. The Governor(Michael Currie)introduces his wife Pookie(Barbara Lang)during a visit to the Campbell household, somewhat spoiled by Mary's near-fatal(but impressively funny)tumble down the stairs; she insists that it was her new shoes, but an unconvinced Burt believes that she was drunk, forcing her to walk out on the husband who no longer shows any affection for her(Mary:"don't worry about me ruining you because I can't,you've already done that yourself...you don't listen anymore, you're never here anymore, you don't care anymore,I don't like you anymore!") Chester and Annie announce that they are now married, but the honeymoon is over when he quickly becomes ultra-jealous of El's newfound intimacy with Jessica, even calling his beautiful young bride a slut, just as everyone else has(Annie:"Chester, you're a horrible, horrible man!") A disgruntled Eunice(who becomes nauseated at the thought of making love to her husband)paints a portrait of crabbiness, with Dutch complaining to everyone that their sex life is "in the toilet." His latest disguises include an ape,Cyrano de Bergerac, and a thief with a stocking over his head(at least Eunice thought the thief was Dutch).
