Do not Think and You May Enjoy the Conclusion

"Moebius: Part 2" is the conclusion of the last and promising episode. The story has many flaws but if the viewer does not think, he or she may enjoy this episode. There are so many plot holes that it is impossible to make any comment without spoiler. My vote is eight.

A bit confusing. And fishy.

Warning: Spoilers
I am not treating Moebius as a "real" part of the story, much less as a season finale, so I am inclined to be quite lenient towards the numerous plot holes or development shortcuts that plague it. However, the fact is that a certain number of events are left unexplained, or at least unjustified. Why go to such extents to get Alternate Teal'c if it is to lose Daniel on the way back? (For the scriptwriters, it was clearly a matter of not having two Daniels on screen, but it does make the trip to Chulak counterproductive). What happens/happened to those characters once the timeline changes back? And who could believe, even for one second, in that scene between Carter and O'Neill?

So okay, the whole Moebius ring sort of unravels (hehe) in this second part. There are still some good moments and funny lines, but I think you should see it as a sort of memento rather than as a proper episode. It really IS a pity that this should be our last moments together with "the real" SG-1. Such a major season deserved a better sendoff.

Not really good but not really bad either
Doc_Rancher26 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't the best written episode and certainly not a good season's finale. But it's not all bad. It's fun to see the members of SG-1 in an alternate timeline without a stargate or even a good life. And it's nice to see some "old" faces and finally the pyramids on earth and Ra in its prime in Egypt. Many of the scenes in the alternate timeline are very well written but the time travel story itself is not. I agree that Carter would've never said yes to the time travel especially when there is no imminent thread they need the ZPM for. The solution isn't as believable either. By the way, I think neither the original SG-1 nor the alternate SG-1 travel back to the future. The alternate SG-1 just puts the ZPM in a place where it can be found about 3000 years later so that the time travel will never be necessary and therefore the past will never be (significantly) altered. (alternate Carter says at some point that they will stay in old Egypt). A "typical" time travel paradox, but not of the best sort.

So 8.5 points for a nice and sometimes quiet funny written alternate reality but only 3.5 points for the story as such.

Love this episode save for one major flaw... if the future was changed completely and no one ever joined SG-1 or went through the gate... how does general O'Neill have the ancient dna?

Almost as bad as it gets

Warning: Spoilers
This really is one of the worst episodes of "SG-1" in a long, long time. Probably the worst since "Prodigy", one of my least favourite episodes.

After "Moebius Part I", I was expecting a lot more from this episode especially since it was Richard Dean Anderson's swansong as a regular. It was cool to see General Hammond, Rodney, Apophis and Kawalsky in "SG-1" again but, in fairness, they didn't really do anything that important. It seemed to me that they were just brought back for the heck of it. One character is okay but FOUR is a little overkill.

I also really disliked the stupid, sappy ending. I'm all for Jack and Sam getting together at some stage but it's not the only reason, or the main one, I watch the show. I watch it for the humour, the great story lines, the great special effects and the usually above average acting. Unfortunately, this episode was low on all of them. It was obvious that they'd spent most of their special effects budget on "Reckoning" and "Threads". It was such a cop-out to kill off the original timeline Jack, Sam and Teal'c and the alternate timeline Daniel so they wouldn't have to do any split-screen shots. Having characters meet other versions of themselves is one of the main things that I love about time travel or alternate reality episodes.

The actual ending was a big anti-climax. Describing it was certainly not enough to satisfy or even engage the viewer. To think that this would have been not just the season finale but the SERIES finale if the show wasn't renewed for a ninth season makes me shudder...and gives me an upset stomach. Either "Reckoning" or "Threads" would've have been a much better season finale and a swansong for RDA.

Now There Are Fish
fcabanski26 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The build up from part one was never realized in part 2. But there are good moments.

  • Meeting anther Apophis - Teal'c once again (a-GAIN) joining SG-1 - What becomes of Daniel

It would have been nice if the SG-1 team members had met each other. But the appropriate people were killed, so there was only one of each.

The episode never specifically mentions what became of the alternate Jack, Sam and Teal'c and the original time line Daniel. It's hinted they lived out their lives in ancient Egypt.

In the end things are slightly different but mostly the same.

This episode was really the end of SG-1. After this, the show added the Farscape folks and the Ori. It became Stargate Farscape. Too bad Reckoning wasn't the final episode.

Not a good thing

Warning: Spoilers
There is very little to redeem this episode of Stargate (part 1 or 2). There was some humor in it, which is the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 10. When Alternate Jack O'neill's on his fishing boat and in the end when there is a fish in his no fish pond. Oh I will also mention the return of the "gateship" joke.

That being said, the rest of this story was horrible. As the previous review stated, the return of certain characters did not really add to the story and was mostly gratuitous. There were some major holes in this story. With their previous time travel experience, General Hammond wisely let the team go through with their mission, knowing they would be sent back in time. This was to preserve the time line. Yet in this episode, they would have us believe that SG-1 would not need to do anything once they had the ZPM. This makes no sense, if they decide not to return, then them going in the past never happened and thus they would not have the ZPM. They would have to return in order to preserve the time-line of them receiving the ZPM. I suppose they could explain this and say that it is 3 separate alternate realities. This would of course mean that the original team would have disappeared in their time line (The one we have been following for the 8 seasons). Which also means that we are now watching the alternate-alternate time line of them having the ZPM. Meaning SGU and Atlantis from that point was not the original. (I know confusing, time line plots usually are) I suppose I have an issue wanting to think that we are now watching an alternate-alternate reality. When Daniel visited the alternate reality through the mirror, they made it a point to emphasize the importance of the ORIGINAL time-line we were following. The original time-line if continued would have SG-1 having gone missing with the time-machine puddle-jumper. Thus it would have changed everything that happens after with season 9-10, SGA and SGU. The only way you can make it believable would have been NOT to kill off the original Teal'c, Samantha and Jack. Had their alternates meet them and perhaps THEY would have been killed in helping the original team perform the revolt, keep the gate and let them use the damaged jumper to return to their time WITH the ZPM (Burying it to find with the gate would also have irreparably altered the time-line). This would have made a lot more sense. They would not need to have the part about them not needing to do anything.

Now with all Sci-fi's we must be willing to suspend belief. However I just do not believe they put any effort in writing this story. Especially for a season finale. The previous reviewer is correct yet again in that Threads would have been a better season finale. There is an abundance of possibilities I left out and no matter how you look at it, the time-line would have been irreparable. I do not see Samantha Carter EVER going along with this.

I also had a problem with the Alternate Jack O'Neill. He spoke with a much more pronounced Minnesotan (spelling) accent as the alternate. Even with the Canadian "Eh". This was completely lost once he was back in Stargate command. At least Samantha Carter tried to hold up to her Alternate's geeky walk when the alternates went back in time.

It's almost better to imagine this episode NEVER happening. Kind of like Highlander II The Quickening. I fully enjoy the Stargate Franchise, but even good shows have their bad episodes. It was unfortunate this was a two parter for a season Finale. I was never happy with it.

Excruciating in almost every way
sanctissima21127 March 2020
Every time I watch this I cringe. Watching Amanda Tapping acting as a buck-toothed, goggle-eyed goofy nerd isn't funny, it's painful. Daniel's dweeb routine is more bearable, but not only have we seen it before, it wasn't as extreme. So, yeah, easier to deal with. (A little) Jack as sloppy curmudgeon made perfect sense, but not much else did. I dont know, the goofiness just wasn't funny. It didn't ring true, even for "alternate" versions of these characters. Out of all the entire series, this is my least favorite episode.
