Finale of Three's Company which was broadcast in September
CCsito26 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was the final one for "Three's Company" and was shown in September instead of May, 1984 as a tie-in to the sequel "Three's a crowd". The series ending jettisoned four of the five cast members (Janet, Terry, Larry, Mr. Furley) and were to be replaced with Vicky, EZ, the divorced couple, Mr. & Ms. Bradford in the sequel. This episode was a continuation of a 2 part episode where Janet was married in the first part. In this episode, the final appearances for Janet, Terry, Larry, and Mr. Furley are shown as each exits the apartment near the end of the episode. Larry and Mr. Furley pause before leaving the apartment after saying their farewells to the roommates. Then Janet, Jack, and Terry leave for the last time and turn off the lights in the apartment. The scene ended with complete silence from the studio audience. It was a bittersweet ending to the TV series. You felt that the TV costars did not want the series to end. The episode ended with a tie-in to the "Threes a crowd" series which continued with only the Jack Tripper character. I watched the series sequel for the one year that it aired, but it lost much of the original series' comedic luster by focusing the comedic plot between Jack and Vicky's father (which got a bit tired and repetitious).

Poor finale for great show

Warning: Spoilers
The second half of the two-part series finale of Three's Company focuses predominantly on Jack and Vicki's relationship. At the end of the previous episode, Jack proposed to Vicki but we find out here that she's seriously afraid to get married. Thus, she turns him down. Instead, she offers to live with Jack but he cannot imagine himself living with her. The two break up before Jack is persuaded by Terri to live with her based on advice he had given Janet about her own relationship.

All this build-up of Jack and Vicki living together phases them and Vicki's father into the spin-off Three's a Crowd. The spin-off wasn't successful and was cancelled after only one season. This episode clearly demonstrates why. Mary Cadorette's portrayal of Vicki's explanation of why she's afraid to get married comes off fake and unreal. Plus, the comedic chemistry between her and Jack just is not there.

For a show that focused on the relationship between the three roommates in apartment 201, this episode has some of the smallest time onscreen for Janet and Terri. Jack dominates the episode. It's unfair to all the other characters, especially Janet who has been in the series since the beginning.
