For a John Boy meets a messed up girl episode this isn't bad. Doesn't provide in depth analysis of Spanish Civil War. Story succeeds in showing the futility of longing for or owning material possessions. Elizabeth gets a good back story in this one.

Warning: Spoilers
Once again John Boy directs an episode and this time he's in love again. I found the episode very tiresome how he deals with an exuberant, wealthy girl looking for adventure. Selena is the love interest but seems totally different from an earlier episode, The Thoroughbred, where she's a rather sweet, rich girl.
Now she tries to convince John Boy to go to Spain and fight a war she knows nothing about. John Boy just wants to get lucky like he did with Poet Lady. I lost interest quickly as it goes no where until we find the bottom has fallen out of the Lindville fortune and Selena is devastated. John Boy once again uses psychology and Selena will stick around, go to Boatwright but never to be seen again. Some of the family put in an appearance only in the beginning so where were Jason, Jim Bob, Grampa etc. Maybe I zoned out.
Elizabeth is featured in a subplot almost more interesting about jealousy except her new friend can't act. I wish we could see more episodes featuring MaryEllen as her character is strong like The Quilting, and Norton-Taylor is a convincing actress.
I like when they have notable characters return like Martha Corrine Walton, Sarah Jane Simmons and Marcia Woolery but not so much for Selena, Cousin Olivia and A. J. Covington played by an imposter.
