An Important Message
barlowralph17 July 2018
Unlike others who have expressed misgivings about this episode (not on IMDb reviews, but in other places) I find this to be a strong episode with an important message about not just tolerating, but accepting and affirming people who are different from us. When Grandfather Joseph (Jerado Decordovier) talks to Elizabeth near the end of the episode, it is a touching and deeply meaningful monologue. Also, this episode shows John Walton as a fallible person, who can learn from his experiences and grow as a person. Kami Cotler as Elizabeth gave a lovely innocent performance here. Don't let the unlikely coincidence of the location of the Indian burial ground distract you from the quality of this excellent story.

One of the sadder episodes

Warning: Spoilers
I'm glad we have a chance to see a large amount of Elizabeth on this episode but I must agree with the father. If you threaten the family with a fire started at night in an attempt to reclaim your old ancenstral burial ground you must be locked up. Not going to grab me with emotional baggage from generations back. Wrong is wrong.

awful acting

Where did they find papa Indian? He was as bad of an actor as he was ugly. It's like when he talks his lips don't move and he's wearing a mask. I read where it was his first role with a speaking part and I believe it. And could there be anyone more annoying than Elizabeth? She asks the dumbest questions and tries too hard to act stupid. This episode will put you to sleep it's so slow moving and predictable. The courtroom scene at the end is beyond lame. The odd thing is the episodes preceding it and the ones that come after are good episodes, someone dropped the ball on this one though. I like the Walton's but this episode is at the bottom of the barrel.
