Jeff Morrow and Claudette Colbert have come to settle in the west where Morrow, a former Union Army veteran is going to be the new schoolteacher. Those two facts annoy the town bully Ed Atwater beyond endurance who is a former Confederate. After he threatens Morrow in the saloon and Morrow punches him out, Atwater says get out of town or start packing a gun and meet me at the appropriate time.
Both Morrow and Colbert are from the east where they do have more established law and order. Imagine High Noon but Grace Kelly going around the town looking for help for her husband and you have a frantic Colbert. Her best scene is with sheriff Denver Pyle who explains that these gunfights are totally legal especially since we're in a territory not a state. That fine point for Colbert is a distinction without a difference.
This was one of Colbert's few small screen appearances and she registers well as the woman who stands by her man. You have to see for yourself how this fine drama ends.
