This episode begins with the Butler family around the kitchen table eating supper. The father, Sam Butler, has a late meeting in town and will leave the family alone. The mother, Leona Butler (Barbara Stanwyck), has a bad feeling about the night. She asks her husband to carry his rifle on this one evening. But since Sam had seen a peaceful Indian village massacred years ago, he refuses to carry a gun.

While Sam is gone, a drunken Indian stalks the property and steals a horse. During the theft the eldest child of the Butler's is killed. Now Leona is having a hard time coming to grips with the death of her son. She blames her husband for the death since he would not listen to her warnings. It appears the family will never be the same unless Sam can take up arms against the Indian that killed her son. But when the Indian returns when Ben is out with the posse, Leona may get her chance for revenge.

Barbara Stanwyck is excellent in this story. She captured the camera in nearly every scene making the show have realism to the events unfolding on the screen. The story is one of the better tales that has come from the series in some time. With the cast and the fine script, this makes for one of the better episodes in the entire collection.
