When George begins to believe that his descendants in Africa were Kings of their tribe, he is bitterly disappointed when further research reveals that they were a small week tribe overcome by a more powerful one and made slaves. "Not only were my ancestors in America slaves, their ancestors were slaves, too!", he says with great frustration, and when Tom and Helen come over, he admits the truth and confesses that his ego got the better of him. But no sooner has he humbled himself then the real George returns, and that results in a great laugh as does the final scene of George's return of a present to them to save them for their present that has a bit of sarcasm as well.
This episode is very funny because it shows George at his most vein yet reveals underneath all that how insecure he really is. Mother Jefferson and Louise get some good jigs in at each other, particularly Mother Jeffersons response of bringing fruit over for dessert. This is a very well written episode where everybody gets good material yet steps aside when it is Sherman Hemsley's time to shine, knowing that the episode is really his to take.
