Not one of my favorite episodes by a longshot. Sometimes, this show can be boring. Although, this is the very first truly boring episode (and if I remember correctly, one of the last until the highly problematic season 4). Phil Hartman was a great talent on the show but I really don't think Bill McNeil was a very interesting character. In fact, I know he wasn't. This episode seems to be all about pointing out again and again that he's really just an ego and that's all which stands out about him. Which should make this plot line a slightly lesser focus. But it's right up front and center, for a series of extremely lowkey jokes. So lowkey that this just isn't the best mode for the show. Nobody, except for Dave (I love that song too), gets to really be funny here- this is all mopey Bill's episode. Though Phil Hartman does look devastatingly handsome throughout. I especially enjoyed him unshaven (wow). When I have the choice, I usually skip this episode. I think I like my Bill the way he usually is- keeping his problems inside. Coating them up with ego.
