Instant Beauty Pageant
enannysource17 July 2006
Hi all, I'm not a big fan of beauty pageants. I don't like that the girls never seem real to me. They seem like they were groomed from birth to be in a pageant. I like the Style network and was watching How do I look when I saw the ad for Instant Beauty Pageant. I thought it was really fun and the girls all seemed so genuine, even down to the nasty pretty one who had no clue how rude she was. I'm curious to see the next one. I hope it's more down-to-earth girls like me. I can see how it boosted the winner's self-esteem. Who wouldn't be flattered to be approached? Plus, you get a free bathing suit and evening dress - I could use a little black one. Anyway, I think other people should watch this Friday night and let me know what you think. Girls, I know what you'll be paying attention to. Guys, they're in BIKINI'S!!

Not just a beauty pageant.

Warning: Spoilers
Yes there is a beauty pageant. It has all of the accoutrements of the standard pageant. Opening number, swimsuit, talent and evening gown. However it is extremely compressed. They learn the opening number in twenty minutes. The talents are varied. Some people have genuine talent, others have ad hoc talent. The swimsuit competition has a variety of shapes. The audience chooses the winners in each. The results are never predictable. A bookie would never offer odds on this one.

The real fun comes in the preparation. Each contestant is chosen with a companion. The companion is the "coach". They are given $500.00 and three hours to buy the swimsuit, evening gown and any accessories. The interaction between the coach and the contestant makes this a superb reality show. These interactions are often exquisite. A mother of a 21 year old woman is in on the purchase of her swimsuit. A best friend coach has a meltdown because(suddenly) attention is shifted to her friend. Another coach makes inexplicable yes, no decisions.

These interactions make it close to a genuine reality show. Who is dominant, why were these people ever friends in the beginning? The husbands (so far) have been really sweet. They really want to support their wives.

This superbly dissects human behavior. If it were a documentary, it would make the art house circuit.

Me? I am an older male with just enough testosterone left to click on something called "Instant Beauty Pageant" and left enchanted.

Missed contest winner
dcain814 January 2008
O.K, I stumbled across this show and it was a HOOT! Really enjoyed it except--when they were announcing the winners I saw the 2nd place winner then got a phone call and MISSED HEARING THE WINNER!! Doh! (I hope it was the long-haired brunette who got so emotional trying on swimsuits) Would someone PLEASE fill me in? Thanks!

P.S. That girl was SO cute--I can't believe she thought she was fat in a swimsuit --- I think she has a great figure! Also, the bodybuilder should have had her daughter in the contest--much cuter. Nonetheless, kudos to Mom for bravery. The girl that used being a waitress as a talent--give me a break! She could have won this thing if she really had talent and if she had actually chosen a gown instead of a piece of paper for a gown. ( If you tell me she won, I'll scream)

Good show, good concept--fun, impulsive things like this make life interesting...
