So many bad guys.

Warning: Spoilers
The Doctor talks with the Cyber controller, and realises that as a race of logic, the Cybermen calculated that one day and intelligent race would land on the planet and awaken them. The Cybermen spell out their plan, to convert The Doctor and crew into Cybermen. With the exception of Governance everyone escapes the Cybermen. Klieg now armed, is pushed to almost megalomania by Kaftan, and tries again to control the Cybermen.

The Sixties Cybermen were great, I love the concept of them being slaves to logic, behaving and acting in ways that were mathematically driven, I also love the progression in their design, I'm a huge fan of the Mondassian Cybermen, but it's always great to see them develop. Some lovely touches, the Doctor's moment with Victoria was special, her recalling her Father.

So there are a few dodgy accents, and the impressive Roy Stewart can be seen on strings, but who cares, they're the only minors I can comment on, in every other way this is an excellent episode. 9/10

Warning: Spoilers
Doctor Who: The Tomb of the Cybermen: Episode 3 starts as the Cybermen prepare to freeze Klieg (George Pastell) & Professor Parry (Aubrey Richards) in readiness to turn them into Cybermen with the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) & Jamie (Frazer Hines) not far behind. They sense a chance to run & they mange to make it back to the main control room where Victoria (Deborah Watling) & Kaftan (Shirley Cooklin) are, however the spaceship is still not fixed, Kaftan & Klieg are still trying to make an alliance with the Cybermen who program their Cybermats to hunt the survivors out & kill them...

Episode 3 from season 5 this Doctor Who adventure originally aired here in the UK during September 1967, directed by Morris Barry The Tomb of the Cybermen is considered to be the best surviving Patrick Troughton story by many fans & that's something I wouldn't disagree with. The script by Kit Pedler & Gerry Davis has a familiar set up used many times in many films & TV show's of a group of space travellers menaced by some alien force while stranded somewhere in space & with that basic story the makers have turned in a pretty entertaining four part story. There is quite an emotional scene for the Doctor in this episode where he has to comfort Victoria because she is missing her father & he unusually talks about his own family with Troughton pulling the scene off nicely, a shame about Watling though who just isn't very good. Some of the typical Doctor Who lapses in logic are starting to rear their ugly heads, for instance if the Cybermen are so clever why did they trap themselves down in an icy tomb with no way to open the only hatchway out from inside? I mean you would have thought the Cybermen would have made sure they could open the only way out of the tomb if they became trapped in it, wouldn't they? How did they get down there & shut the hatchway in the first place? Also after meeting a Cyberman for the first time Victoria says they are 'so strong' yet a few seconds earlier she fought one off the Doctor using a drinks bottle! Anyone or anything which can be defeated with a drinks bottle just isn't that tough in my opinion. Finally, why did they lock the treacherous Kaftan & Kleig who want to take over the universe in the Cyberman's weapon room where there were obviously all sorts of Cybermen weaponry? Was it any great surprise to anyone to see Kleig & Kaftan break out of the weapon's room with a deadly Cyberman ray gun?

There has been a couple of noticeable goof in this episode, the wire holding Toberman up when the Cyberman holds him above it's head is far too visible & at about 11 minutes in when the Cyberman is climbing down the ladder if you look under his left armpit you can clearly see a large rip in it's costume & the actor's clothes underneath! The special effects have been good so far, there has been some electricity effects & some OK model work although I thought the Cybermats looked a bit silly with huge stuck on eyes! Also, am I the only one who is slightly disappointed with the fact there are only about five Cybermen in this story? The acting has been variable, the two American spaceship pilots are annoying, Deborah Watling as Victoria is poor & Shirley Cooklin who was producer Peter Bryant's then wife looks like a dead ringer for teenage singer Amy Winehouse with that odd looking hair-do.

The Tomb of the Cybermen: Episode 3 is a good episode in a great story although the story is starting to perhaps show a few cracks & the odd plot hole but not enough to prevent an enjoyable 25 minutes.

Review of all 4 episodes:

This story of an archaeological expedition in the future searching for the remnants of the Cybermen is rightly highly praised. It is great TV with thrills, fun and the Doctor on usual good form. Many people herald this as one of the all time top 10 or 20 greatest classic stories in the history of the series and I think that is only a very tiny exaggeration of its quality. It is a truly great 4 part story with only a few small imperfections. Parts 1, 2 and 4 are 10/10 classic episodes, whilst not necessarily absolutely perfect they are deserving of top marks overall. Part 3 has a few scenes that are less impressive but it is still brilliant and I rate Part 3 as 9/10.

The only real flaw in the production is the American characters Captain Hopper and Jim Callum which are cheesily written and woodenly performed. It is mainly the fact there are more scenes involving them in Part 3 that hold it back slightly from top marks. Thankfully they are not in it very much in the rest of the story.

Season 5 of Doctor Who is one of the most popular and highly regarded and I 100 percent agree with that as it is in my top 5 Doctor Who series of all time. In my opinion this story is mostly magical, memorable, exciting and fun but even then it is not quite as good as some of other stories that followed in series 5 like The Abominable Snowmen, The Ice Warriors or The Web of Fear which are even more magical and near perfect.

The ideas of Cybermen in a tomb and them coming out of their 'cocoons' are thrilling ideas and provide some great moments. The Cybermen themselves are marvelous villains although I am in the minority who feel their voices during this period are inferior to the earlier 'sing song' voices used in The Tenth Planet. The Doctor and Jamie are really entertaining throughout the story (although you as always have to suspend disbelief a bit with Jamie at times as he copes with time travel and science slightly too well for his supposedly simple Scottish Highlander character from the past). There is plenty of good dialogue and action and only a few less well executed scenes along the way.

Overall it is excellent and an all time classic but look forward to a few other stories later in Season 5 which I feel are even better!

I really enjoyed this chapter. The story kicks into high gear as we discover both Klieg's ultimate plan, and exactly what the Cybermen are up too.

After being rounded up by the Cybermen the expedition stage a dramatic escape after Capt Hopper intervenes. The Cybermen now once again trapped in the city launch a wave of cybermats, which once defeated allows Kaftan and Klieg to make their move.

**Puff Puff** thats all in 24 minutes of television

Onwards and upwards to the final episode......... ....... .... .............. ...... ........... . .......... ......... ................... . ....... ...... ......... ..........
