A Hair Raising Time For Arthur!
ShadeGrenade13 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Once again money is tight in the Butler household, and Stan cannot secure overtime as Blakey wants conductors not drivers. In desperation, he is forced to join the cleaning ladies. His first day in the job is not a success - he smashes a window on his own bus.

Back home, Arthur is behaving in a furtive manner. Struck on a sexy clippie named Beryl, he tries to attract her interest by wearing a wig...

A slight but amusing episode; best appreciated by middle-aged men with an alopecia ( baldness ) problem ( I'm sorry to say I include myself in this category ). No man likes to think of himself as losing his sex appeal, which is why many resort to the kind of desperate measures Arthur undertakes here. Of course, it fails miserably. Though Beryl is initially impressed, she sees through the deception when the doors to Stan's bus unexpectedly close, trapping Arthur's head, and causing the wig to fall off.

Good work from Michael Robbins, particularly when he tries to justify buying the wigs. "When I came here, I had a full set of hair. I want it back!".

Funniest moment - our first sight of Stan in his 'Mrs.Mopp' gear!

A classic episode, very funny.

Arthur's having something of a midlife crisis, falling for attractive young clippy Beryl, he chooses to invest in a toupee, meanwhile poor Stan has to work overtime just so the family can pay the bills.

A Thin time is an out and out classic episode, it's very funny. Classic moments throughout, from Stan's outfit, to the moment with the bus doors, it's a classic.

It's been nice this series to see Michael Robbins having a greater presence, it is very much an episode where Arthur is the main focus. Robbins was excellent here, I just love those facial expressions of his.

Stan really is the most mild mannered, decent guy, contrast that with Arthur, who just seems content to sit and snipe, it made a nice change to see him head to work, not something we've seen too many times.

9/10.

''I am not bald!''

Warning: Spoilers
Arthur is smitten by Beryl, a gorgeous clippie at the depot, however she only seems to be interested in men who have a full head of hair. In desperation, he buys wigs to impress her but, as expected, he is found out.

Meanwhile, with money as tight as ever for, Stan is forced to take on extra work at the depot. Indeed, one such job is a cleaning job as one of the cleaners is off sick...

A funny episode probably not enjoyed by those who are going thin on top. Michael Robbins is on good form here, particularly with a scene in which Arthur is in denial about his baldness. 'Coronation Street' actress Alex Marshall plays Beryl.

Funniest bit - Stan accidentally breaking the window on his bus with a broom handle!

One of the Classics!

One of the classic On the Buses episodes, with a particularly impressive performance by Michael Robbins.

Series 5 wasn't an overly impressive series as it is, episodes like 'the nursery' and 'Stan's Room' dragged the series down, but 'A Thin Time' is one that really showcases what vintage 70s comedy really means. There are some cracker lines, and some really great moments that are still wonderfully amusing after all these years.

On the Buses hasn't aged well for the most part, but every now and then you get that one episode that is really impressive, even now, this is one of those episodes, with great lines and great performances, especially by Michael Robbins, who gives one of his best performances in On the Buses.
