Uninspiring
ThomasBHardy21 July 2007
There's a certain whimsical element to the first half hour. Credit is due for the setting and the conceptual basis for the story, and the narration in the opening is reminiscent of Dead Like Me.

However the movie quickly fades into a drama class level of acting that keeps it from being entertaining. Frequent changes in the quality of the filming almost suggest that it was done with several different types/styles of cameras, but to achieve a stylistic effect. Rather it distracts from the scenes, which are not strong enough to survive on their own, let alone with distractions.

If you are a die hard fan of any kind of independent films, you might want to give it a whirl, but I otherwise do yourself the favor of steering clear.

Awful low budget horror crap.

Warning: Spoilers
Cadaverella starts as Cash (Ryan Seymour) is digging a grave for Cinder (Megan Goddard) who he has just murdered on behalf of her stepmother Donna (Jennifer Friend), what follows is the story of how Cinder ended up dead & more importantly what she is going to do about it...

Editd, co-written & directed by Timothy Friend I'll try to keep this comment sort as I don't even want to think about Cadaverella anymore let alone waste time typing this review any longer than is necessary. The script by Timothy & Jennifer Friend is apparently supposed to be based on the fairy tale Cinderella, well to be frank I didn't see it but as an adult my memories of Cinderella are vague. Weren't there meant to be three ugly sisters? Didn't a pumpkin turn into a coach or something? Anyway none of what happens has any connection to Cinderella & if it does it's is purely accidental. At only just over 70 minutes long Cadaverella still bored me stiff & it took me two attempts to get through to the end, the character's are rubbish, the dialogue sucks, it has no pace, it's dull & it take an hour before Cinder gets killed so the films big selling point is condensed into barely 10 minutes at the end & I can pretty much promise you now the hour that leads up to it is a snooze-fest of the highest order where virtually nothing of interest happens.

Working on a low budget director Friend does nothing special here, it looks every bit the cheaply shot piece of crap that it is. There is one part of this film which puzzle me, at the start Cinder is a young girl when her stepmother & her two twins move in, jump forward so Cinder is now a young lady but the two twins remain exactly the same age? Can someone explain that? No, I didn't think so. There area couple of gore scenes at the end, someone head is crushed, someones jaw is ripped of, someone gets a fist through there head & that's about that.

Technically the film is basic & I'm being kind, there's no visual style or flair & this is pretty dull stuff to sit through. The acting wasn't exactly great but then again you probably expected that.

Cadaverella is total crap from start to finish & I hated every moment of it, I don't think any filmmaker deliberately goes out to make a bad film but when I have to pay good money & spend time watching it it's difficult for me to cut worthless glorified home made films like this any slack.

Awful - Awful - Awful

Wow...OK. So, after reading the little feud on here, I decided I had to see this movie for myself. This movie is HORRIBLE. I stopped watching it. I strongly recommend cleaning a closet instead of watching this movie, you'll be more spooked/entertained.

It's low budget with bad acting.

Whoever is giving this movie 10s is completely incorrect and should be disregarded.

I am in no way connected to any of the other reviewers.

Simply put, this movie is not worth watching.

Very, very BAD MOVIE.

Absolutely dreadful!

Warning: Spoilers
Okay so whoever decided to think of writing the plot for this movie needs to go take some writing lessons and learn how a plot is developed. Also, they need to learn how to produce some decent effects in B-horror films such as these. If you're giving a movie the green light, please make sure it's at least decent. Most of the time I thought it was shot using a hand-held camera and a green screen! The actors were absolutely horrible and not likable at all, the characters were undeveloped which made the movie awkward and the plot just seemed to fall apart. I mean an idea like this had potential but I guess the writers, effects artists, actors and director just wanted to hurry and get this film over with. Cinder is a hateful girl, a real snob. I don't know why her friend would be in love with her. She's just a total witch. Why is Cash so obsessed with Cinder? Why does it take her forever to realize her friend is in love with her? Why is she a kleptomaniac? This films lack of a decent plot raises too many questions. I definitely hated the movie and would never watch it again, nor recommend it to anyone. I guess that's what you get for watching a movie on YouTube.

dark and twisted
NiceGuy_6911 May 2007
This low-budget feature updates Cinderella for a modern day (and bloodthirsty) audience. Certainly not for all tastes, this dark and twisted fairy tale presents Cinderella as a young librarian awaiting her twenty-first birthday in order to gain access to her trust fund and thus escape her evil stepmother. Unfortunately things go wildly wrong and she ends up seeking bloody revenge from beyond the grave.

Although the low-budget shows at times the acting is topnotch and the film is stylishly presented and overcomes its flaws with its enthusiasm. Be sure and watch through the end credits to get the whole Cadaverella experience. Solid low-budget entertainment that is worth seeking out.

Original and Entertaining...
terrible23 January 2009
I was quite surprised with the outcome of "Cadaverella", as I was certain that it would suck...

Strong writing by Timothy and Jennifer Friend, and directing by Timothy, makes "Cadaverella" an entertaining slice of fairytale pie. The comedic tone is set early by a foul-mouthed narration, but it is the acting that truly sets this film apart from thousands of other low budget Indies. The film's star: Megan Goddard is simply wonderful as the ill-fated Cinder, who's perfect world is plagued by tragedy and misfortune. Kieran Hunter has a strong turn as the (wicked) stepmother and the rest of the cast seem to understand what their character's purpose is supposed to be. Although I was not real fond of the fact that many of the actors played multiple parts, I was able to overlook this because they did them well... Over-all mood and cinematography of the film looks fantastic, and the viewer happily follows "Cinder" through her pathetic set of circumstances. The down side of the film would be it's musical score, which mixes some sort of jazz with rock drums and finger-snaps. It never quite fits what is happening on screen, and I found this disrupting. Another would be a few unnecessary scenes that just didn't need to be there and felt more like filler, perhaps because of the film's short running time. However, these unfortunate mishaps do not make this well crafted, sensationally acted film anything less then great entertainment for your indie buck.

Not as bad as they say
forest-nymph30 December 2008
Most people are REALLY exaggerating about this movie. Sure, it's low-budget and the special effects are laughable, but it's actually a rather good movie. Watchable, at the VERY least.

Cinder is probably the least-likable Cinderella character ever. They really picked the wrong character for that role. Her poor coworker would have fit the bill much better. The kills are mediocre, there's a lot of boring filler, and the voiceovers are terribly unbelievable. Most of the characters are more like caricatures, extreme stereotypes and I guess are supposed to be ironic and funny, but come off as uninspired.

Still, worth watching, especially if you like horror versions of fairy tales, or like laughing at bad effects with your friends.

Wonderful!
hbeeinc7 August 2014
After an overly broad opening that tries too hard to be cute/clever, Cadaverella settles down into a very nice little movie. It's uneven in spots but worth sticking it out. I'm shocked that Megan Goddard hasn't done anything else since she anchored this movie magnificently. It's not to much to say that her character and the great writing kept me watching. I'm glad I did. From Leonard Cohen to chicken feet, the lines pop out of left field making me bark with laughter. For a micro-budget, I loved the soundtrack. It didn't have the "my buddy's cousin has a BITCHIN' band, dude" quality of screeching guitars, bad synthesizers and pretentious lyrics. Keiran Hunter, playing split roles, delineated the two characters well enough that I didn't catch until almost the end of the movie. Ryan Seymour, also playing split roles, was dull in both.

There's a real humanity in the script and genuine feeling in Goddard's performance. I'm on a micro-budget kick right now and this ranks in the top 5 of what I've watched. Don't get thrown off by the opening. Just enjoy it.

Rating is harsh, this one's worth a watch
Humdinger6927 October 2013
As I am typing this, this movie currently holds an IMDb rating of 3.4, which I think is rather harsh.

While suffering from a rather boring start, I found this one to be dark, endearing and even funny at times, factors which are helped by good acting performances. There is one plot hole another reviewer mentioned about the twins staying the same age after several years, but this is partially explained in the end. As an added bonus, there is some great unexpected gore near the end. As long as you don't mind low budget, I would recommend at least giving this one a chance.
