Wow.
clayface914 June 2020
The first match is Booker T versus Scott Steiner. Gene Okerlund interviews Scott Steiner after the match until Debra McMichael interrupts and asks Gene to arrange a meeting with Ric Flair and Arn Anderson to try to end the feud between them and her husband. Diamond Dallas Page faces Jim Powers. Gene Okerlund interviews Konnan. Sting takes on Meng. Gene Okerlund did arrange a meeting between Debra and the Horsemen, but the Horsemen end up ambushing Joe Gomez and the Renegade, who they were supposed to wrestle later. David Taylor battles Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Gene Okerlund interviews Big Bubba Rogers and Jimmy Hart. Gene Okerlund interviews Scott Norton. Then Norton tries to capture the World Championship from the Giant. Steven Regal faces Billy Kidman. The Nasty Boys have a brawl with the Public Enemy. We see another training montage with Steve McMichael and Kevin Greene. The main event is Sting and Lex Luger defending the Tag Team Championship against Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Gene Okerlund interviews the Giant after the match. Scott Hall comes out and presents the "big" surprise that he promised last week, which turns out to be Kevin Nash. Good episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Hour One.

(06.10.96)

Live from Wheeling, West Virginia

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Larry Zbyszko

Booker T Vs Scott Steiner

Steiner wins with an over the head, belly to belly suplex. I thoroughly enjoyed this match! It had consistent excitement from beginning to end and both men had a chance to shine. Ironically, Scott Steiner Vs Booker T would become a staple of main events in 99/2000

**3/4

Debra McMichael interrupts an interview with Scott Steiner to talk to Gene Okerlund. Debra's worried that her husband, Steve McMichael is gonna seriously hurt somebody (Boos for that) and she feels it's her fault. Debra wants to call a meeting to call the match off. Okerlund says he'll try to assemble that meeting later in the night.

Diamond Dallas Paige Vs Jim Powers

DDP wins with the Diamond Cutter. Powers got in more offense than I expected in this glorified squash match. DDP was starting to get major face pops.

*1/4

Konnan is facing El Gato at the Great American Bash Sunday. He delivers a quick promo on the match.

Meng Vs Sting

Sting wins with the Scorpion Deathlock. This was shockingly short. As a result, I can't really comment much on it.

*

Debra McMichael wants to talk to Flair and Arn Anderson about calling off the match with Steve McMichael & Kevin Greene. Woman and Miss Elizabeth scare her away, then Flair and Anderson attack Joe Gomez and The Renegade in the hallway.

"Squire" Dave Taylor Vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

Duggan wins by nailing Taylor with a taped fist. How was the finish not a disqualification? That's an illegal weapon. Wrestling infuriates me sometimes.

3/4*

Big Bubba Rogers says the entire world has laughed at John Tenta for years. He says his hair will stay intact and he's gonna leave Tenta laying like a beach whale at the Great American Bash.

Hour Two

Your hosts are Eric Bischoff & Bobby Heenan

WCW Heavyweight Championship

The Giant (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs Scott Norton

The Giant wins with a chokeslam on the floor. I'm getting sick of these short title matches just to keep The Giant looking strong. They are repetitive and tiresome.

DUD

Lex Luger attacks The Giant from behind after the match. He nails him with a low blow, leaving The Giant even angrier. Luger says he knows The Giant feels pain, now. At the Great American Bash, he has more surprises for The Giant.

Billy Kidman Vs "Lord" Steven Regal

Regal wins by submission with a stump puller. Sting randomly comes in after the match to backhand Regal. Why couldn't they have given this match some time? If they would have gotten at least 5 minutes, this could have been a solid match.

3/4*

The Nasty Boys Vs Public Enemy

Public Enemy wins by DQ after The Nasty Boys use weapons. Not only was this boring, but it's like every other Nasty Boys Vs Public Enemy match you've seen. There is nothing worth seeing here.

*1/4

Tag Team Championship

Lex Luger & Sting (C) Vs Ric Flair & Arn Anderson

Luger and Sting win by DQ after interference from The Giant. Luger, Sting & Scott Steiner hit The Giant with wooden chairs to rock the big guy a little bit. This was an average tag team match. It was technically fine but it lacked true excitement. I didn't feel the threat of a title change at all.

**

The Giant promises that Lex Luger will leave the Great American Bash in a stretcher.

Scott Hall shows up at the announcer's table to confront Bischoff. Kevin Nash shows up shortly afterwards. Nash says Bischoff has run his mouth for 6 months. He says he's sick of hearing about how WCW is where the big boys play, because they are not here to play. He says Bischoff still hasn't come up with three guys to face Hall and Nash, because people are too scared to face them. Nash says Nitro is boring. He criticizes Bischoff for not getting any of the "fossils" in the back to face them. He says Hogan is too busy in Hollywood to bother with WCW. Bischoff says the fight isn't with him. If Nash and Hall wanna show up at the Great American Bash to fight, they can do that.

Thoughts: This was pretty huge at the time. Nash and Hall causing chaos in WCW was the shot in the arm WCW needed. What Nash said about Nitro being boring was true. As I've stated, this was changing everything.

4.5/10 ranking overall.
