The Source Awards is another amusing episode of 30 Rock
tavm9 March 2007
Liz accepts Tracy's invitation for all the "after-after-after" etc. parties. At many of these, she meets a nice African-American whose last name is Black and accepts a dinner invitation. At his office, Jack shows his new wine to Liz but after tasting it, they both get sick. Kenneth tells Tracy about encountering rap mogul Ridiculous whom Kenneth refused entry to Tracy's private parties at T.J.'s request. Tracy gets upset just thinking of him and wants nothing to do with him. I'll stop there and say this was pretty funny though I had to rewind a few times to make sure I heard what I thought I heard during certain punchlines. Loved Wayne Brady's twist on certain black stereotypes and LL Cool J's satirical portrayal of certain rap celebrities. Nice to see Jason Sudeikis return as the flower guy from several weeks ago. The scene at the end certainly was surprising. Loved Tracy's Oprah impersonation. Hope enough viewers tuned in before the hiatus after next week...

Mildly Amusing!
g-bodyl11 February 2014
The sixteenth episode in season one of 30 Rock is probably the weakest episode I have seen since the very beginning and that's saying something. Not to say this episode was bad, it's just not the highest quality I was expecting compared to the last ten episodes or so. That being said, I still found this to be a amusing, quite funny episode. This is Tracy Morgan's episode and he does a good job as always.

In this episode, "The Source Awards," Liz goes on a date with an African American named Steven and when she rejects him, he accuses her of racism. Meanwhile, Jack has plans to use Tracy as a scapegoat to host the Source Awards so he can sell his brand new wine product.

Overall, this is a pretty good episode, not the best though. I liked Tracy's impersonation of Oprah and that is probably the highlight of the show. I rate this episode 8/10.

Tupac lives!

Warning: Spoilers
I like 30 Rock and it's easy to forget that this debuted alongside NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. The latter was considered the one that would survive, and indeed it got higher ratings. But it was 30 Rock that survived due to lower production costs. The rest is history.

Anyway, I loved the racial politics of romance in this episode, and the final line alluding to Tupac being alive.

This is Ridikolus...ly funny
MaxBorg8914 October 2008
After an appetizer in Jack-Tor, now we get the full course of 30 Rock's humorous take on the subject of racism. Once again, Tracy Jordan is partially involved. Once again, that's not good news.

First of all, Tracy invites Liz to an "after-after-after" party. There, she meets an African- American named Steven Black (Wayne Davis) and accepts to have dinner with him. Tracy himself, in the meantime, gets in trouble with rapper Ridikolus (LL Cool J) after Kenneth refused to let the latter in at a party in honor of the crazy comedian. In addition, Jack receives the first wine bottle made in his own vineyard. Only problem: it's disgusting.

The episode works by indulging certain stereotypes (Ridikolus' characterization), subverting others (the awkward dinner) and exaggerating the rest (Tracy playing Oprah). The result is a fine combination of cracking dialogue and worthy guest performances (when was the last time LL Cool J was actually this good?) which fit in seamlessly with the established cast (Morgan and Baldwin in particular). Once again, a delight from start to finish.

The Source Awards (#1.16)
ComedyFan201018 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Liz goes out with a black guy who ends up accusing her of racism when she decides that she doesn't like him.

Tracy and Ridikulous, a rap producer, have a disagreement and Jack tries to make them get along.

What I like about Liz's story is how they made Steven Black's character like. It is especially ridiculous, as well as funny him using a race card because he doesn't represent any of the black stereotypes at all. He is just a very weird guy!

LL Cool J did a good job as a guest in this episode. This story is a bit slow by 30 Rock standards, but still very good. My favorite line from this whole episode is "What would Oprah do?"

Well this was a miss

Very poorly written dialogue with very few good jokes and no good sub plots. Hopefully this isn't the future.
