A Return To Form
Hedgehog8429 November 2022
Still not as much action as the first episode, but a lot better than episode 2.

Ava spends some real time with the OCS and we get to know the other nuns a little better. There's some interesting dynamics at play between characters here. Mother Superion is introduced and has little time for Ava, understandably so. Lilith's annoyance at not getting the halo continues to be explored as she does her best to push Ava out. And we get some nicer scenes between Ava and Beatrice, who seems to be the most receptive to their new Warrior Nun not being an actual nun.

There's also some cool stuff explaining the history of the halo, the origins of the Warrior Nun and the OCS. I guess it's exposition, but the way they do it doesn't feel like that, and Ava is just so damn likable that watching her read out of a book for several scenes is genuinely good TV.

JC and his pals only feature briefly here, which definitely improves the pacing. And with Dr Salvius now after Ava too, things are looking pretty interesting.

Best yet

By far the best episode yet, undertaking some character development and a noble attempt at a fight scene. Though still falls far short on the action, and the backstory flashbacks felt unnecessary. Still no chemistry.

Better pacing, promising for the season!

Warning: Spoilers
In the third episode, Ava finally spends some time in the OCS. This doesn't necessarily mean that the pace picks up dramatically, because it doesn't, so please have some more patience! The pacing still makes sense though, because as someone who's had only bad experiences with nuns and has been dead, it only makes sense that Ava would be distrustful and itchy around nuns and so many religious people. And the nuns, of course, don't really trust her to be the Warrior Nun. So this creates some conflict that may or may not have contributed to her decision by the end of the episode.

Still, this episode offered more background story which is served in a fun-ish manner. The story of how the warrior nun came to be might be a bit boring and droll in theory, but with Ava narrating it with her commentaries, she managed to make it more fun.

This episode also introduced us to more characters in the OCS, such as Mother Superion, and introduces us further to characters we've previously met. It also established Ava's relationships with the nuns.

!! MILD SPOILERS!!

Honestly for me I was excited by her finally meeting the OCS, but the ending seemed like a setback since we're now back to having to watch the nuns chasing after Ava like Tom and Jerry. Again. But I digress. It's what makes sense for the story, and it's not like I'm not having fun! I was just getting a little bit impatient that's all.

Got More Action

Warning: Spoilers
This show is getting better and better. Ava already started her training and we discovered an ability that was shown on episode 1 that I thought was just a thing that the halo does by accident but actually its more likely one of Ava's abilities. Those demon looking monsters are callled tarask (i'm not sure if I spelt it right). And I'm seeing a new relationship formed between Beatrice and Ava. Shotgun Mary being cool once again. She's already one of my favorite this season. We learned more about the halo and the warior nun. The story was really interesting they based it off the bible which im not complaining.
