IF YOU WERE YOUR FATHER, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? CRY!

Excellent serio-comic episode, well written by Max Shulman. Max did a ton of episodes for the series, and this is one of the more thought provoking. 10 STARS.

Mr. Pomfritt (William Schallert) wants his class to write about their future, hence the BIG Question?

What are their inspirations, what do they see themselves doing post graduation, hmmm?

As in doctors, lawyers and sheet metal workers?

Haven't got a clue...

So Dobie and Maynard do a lot of walkin' and thinkin', basically a two man show, and exceptionally directed. They walk from one familiar spot in their lives to the next... and really can't come up with a gosh darn thing, although Maynard has some funny one-liners.

Comes judgement day, the class has to read their individual papers; Maynard reads a few interesting things --and explains his dog ate the rest! Dobie is next, and delivers some profound material, unwritten and unrehearsed. Inspirational. Do not miss it.

Popular character actress Mary Robin Redd plays Betty, her only appearance in the series. Mary was cast in many sitcoms and cop shows over the next 30 years, with some very good dramatic roles. Always fun to see William Schallert, who was everywhere on tv, best known as PATTY DUKE's tv dad. The class offers to take him out for a shake at the end, and that's pretty cool.

Notes indicate this was one of the few episodes mostly filmed outside, and looks to have been filmed around the 20th Century Fox lot.

Not to be missed. SEASON 2 EPISODE 14 remastered dvd box set. Catch the classic color cover with Dobie and Maynard.

... of Dobie Gillis, by far. Great work by the whole cast and terrific writing. Dobie and Maynard delve into philosophy. Who'd a thunk it? I look forward to watching it again soon.
