Laugh out loud story, perhaps borrowing from SOME LIKE IT HOT, ya think?
Dobie is saddled with yet another rich, snooty gal friend, Samantha (played by Jennifer West), and he's trying so hard to impress her. The problem is he needs money, and comes the opportunity to get some fast cash by becoming a waiter --along with Maynard -- at the upper crust Eta Theta Sororiety Open, sponsored by Clarissa Osborne (noneother than Doris Packer).
What could go wrong?
Samantha happens to be attending, that's all. Soooo Dobie and reluctant Maynard have no choice but to dump the waiter threads and dress as girls! You have to give the wardrobe folks lots of credit for this scene, it's over the top.
The closing scene with flabbergasted Mrs. Osborne is a camp classic, and look at Maynard's face. Bob Denver is so goofy. This may have inspired one or two episodes on GILLIGANS ISLAND.
Super direction by Ralph Murphy, who was lead director for MR AND MRS NORTH, and directed the cult horror film, THE MAN FROM HALF MOON STREET (1944). Jennifer West, appeared twice on the show, and appeared in many Warner Brothers/ABC tv shows, such as 77 SUNSET STRIP.
