I Like To Use Tom Lehrer's "Smut" For Accompaniment
boblipton27 June 2020
A woman approaches a pond in the middle of a copse. She begins to disrobe.

That's it for more than a minute in this short film by Johann Schwarzer . There's little known of him, and if not for copies of his films in the Vienna Archives, his work would not have survived at all.... except in the collections of a few dirty and very old men. Despite its hi-falutin' title, it's a movie of a woman taking off her clothes, a strip-tease without music or stage, something for men's smokers.

Should we be surprised? Pornography always sells; one of Melies' earliest films, now missing was THE PEEPING TOMS; in another he showed his future wife naked. Despite the arty title, the point was to look at pretty, naked women.
