GOING FORWARD
douglasjordane4 May 2022
THE AWKWARDNESS OF LEARNING SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR LOVER'S PAST IS CAUSE FOR LOTS OF DIALOGUE AND PILLOW TALK. I THINK THIS SLOW PACE WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED FOR THE TALE OF TWO ANNES ABROAD.

I WONDERED HOW, AND IF, THE CONFRONTAION OF THE APPRISAL WOULD OCCUR. I WAS EQUALLY CURIOUS TO HOW WITTINGLY SHE WOULD RESPOND AND WHETHER SHE WOULD ACCEPT IT. HERE, THE NAME ANNE CAN BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY.

THIS WAS ACTUALLY A DIRECTORIAL AND WRITERS RISK THAT PAID OFF HANDSOMELY. THE HANDLING OF THIS STORYLINE WAS NOT RUSHED AND PROVIDED A NECESSARY EXPLANATION OF THE NARRATIVE GOING FORWARD. BRILLIANT!

Ladies that lunch

Following a fine season premiere, this outing is something of a turgid talk-fest, the plot creeps forward, though the fourth-wall breaking habit is not indulged this time.

There are some excellent details: Joanna Scanlon nailed playing (for her) an atypical character; this week's euphemism - 'Two ladies disinclined to marry'; Jack's hair and French cavalry hat in lieu of top hat; a modern-day style intervention, but in absentia.

Fun watch, but not as strong as last time.
